So, we've got a new #1 at metacritic. "Their Refinement of the Decline" just surpassed 'the Field'. I listened to some songs on myspace, and checked the snippets from Itunes. It's really nice, super mellow ambient.
Not quite sure I wanna pay 20 bucks on Itunes for it yet. I'll let some other posters review it first, see what they think.
Stars of the Lid are one of the legends of ambient, and "Their Refinement..." does just what its title implies: it hones their minimal droning landscapes to near perfection. I listened to this album more than any other ambient release this year (excepting the incredible Copia), despite its length. Very little music is capable of destroying time like this release can.
Oh, and thank god the Field isn't number one anymore. I think "From Here We Go Sublime" might be the year's most overrated record.

but SOTL are still unknown by music fanatics or "indie kids". There are a lot of important ambient/electronic artists, like Yellow 6, Belong, Port-Royal, Winterlight, Fulton lights, etc., but they do not get attention of the medias and well, it's just not a type of music that people appreciate.

I still think that "from here we go sublime" deserves a 9/10.
I dunno. I really liked the lo-fi sound on "Tired Sounds," so when I heard this last one it seemed too clean. I liked the impression of mystery you get when you feel like there's something hidden. something murky.
Coming across this is convincing me to give another, more honest try though. We'll see...
