Personally I've loved the Digitalism album, Justice, Simian Mobile Disco and I'm seeing Muscles on the Daft Punk tour in December, although with the exception of one song I find him utterly boring. Frowner

Muscles is good fun stuff and would probably be crazy to see at the Daft Punk show... don't think I'd bother buying the album though. From what I've heard it's just a bit... well... gimmiky in a "Let's take drugs, Let's go spastic" kind of way.

I've been really enjoying Apparat's Walls, on first listen, I wasn't all that interested, but after spinning it in my car, it has not come out of my cd player. Overall, it's a really solid album.

I haven't given Walls proper attention yet. I should do that.

For now I finally got my E-check to clear so I could download Uusitalo's Karhunainen. Really digging it - he hasn't changed a whole lot since Tulenkantaja, which is just fine with me. The first track is a bit of a departure though. It has no beat, but instead consists of a pretty ambient synth (think Badalamenti's Twin Peaks work) taking center stage, backed by various doors slamming and other noises found as music. But after that he jumps right in with the usual fare. And it still kicks ass.

Roisin Murphy's Overpowered is definitely worth seeking out.

Never heard of this guy before. Any comparisons or descriptions you could make?

I remember Pitchfork recommending Murphy's first album, and I'm like Jglass, I listened and couldn't stand it. I imagine the new one's similar.

Overpowered is NOTHING like Ruby Blue. The beeps, chirps, and whistles associated with Herbert's production are gone (I'm not sure who produced the new album). It has more of a retro 80s sound, if anything.

And for the record, I love Ruby Blue.

I downloaded the Roisin Murphy album at your suggestion, I didn't particularly like it either. I'm so bored with female vocals over electronic music, and the rest of it isn't all that interesting. It'd be fairly a decent album without the vocals, not great, but with them, it's just grating.

I picked up MixMag's latest, and am really liking the disc that came with it Josh Wink's Acid Classic. I'll post some new electronic stuff later.

Uusitalo (New House) is one of several pseudonyms of a Finn by the name of Sasu Ripatti. The two other pseudonyms I'm aware of are Luomo (Light) and Vladislav Delay.

I would file Uusitalo under electro-dub (or under New House musik?). I can hear some common sound ground with Pantha du Prince, maybe some of Out Hud's spacier passages, or a more adventurous version of the Field (tho I really like From Here We Go Sublime too).

I like it the same way I like last year's Orchestra of Bubbles. But in the case of Uusitalo and Luomo, the vocals are more of a puree sprinkled on the top of the new house than anything like the words to a song, which OoB only does a couple times, but anyways.....

The first album I heard from this guy was Luomo's Vocalcity (2001). I heard of it from Pitchfork, which made a connection to Prefuse 73's vocal splicing and dicing. Only you'd need to switch out the hip-hop leanings for house and dub. In the case of Luomo, you might want to beware cos the vocal samples have a pungent Euro-ness to them that might offend the ears of those who are turned off by that sort of thing. But Uusitalo has none of that.

myspace streams uusitalo

You know, I am not too sure, since I am not a Junior Boys fan but I did find something streaming here by them. I don’t know if it is a compilation or an official album or what but there is something by them there. On the left side of the screen just scroll down and you will see it.

Finally got around to listening to Chromophobia. I don't agree with all the raves it's gotten. It's slick sounding, but I wouldn't say groundbreaking.

From here we go sublime is still my top pick for 2007.
