This album got really old really quickly, it's just really cluttered and some of the songs chosen are too radio-friendlky. Give me that gangsta ish.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the disco-infused After Dark compilation is really, REALLY solid. The whole thing is remarkably cohesive for an album featuring several artists.
After Dark is an excellent collection, grab it. Also, Kompakt has a new 2-CD comp coming out that's really good. Those people on Kompakt really know House, they make some seriously good stuff.. I've seen the term IHM thrown around (and if it's supposed to mean "Intelligent House Music") and that's def. what the compilation comtains.

It has to grow on you I thought it was kinda lame at first too.

This "Electronic Music 2007" forum topic has steered my right all year long (thanks everyone!) I can't seem to find the After Dark album anywhere. I vaguely remember reading about it, I think on P-FORK. It's under Various Artists, correct? I can't find it in Itunes, Amazon or Emusic. Anyone know where I can purchase it?
I've searched a little (maybe not hard enough) and I don't see much mention of Dan Deacon's "Spiderman Of The Rings." Considering its oddball aesthetics, I guess one could fashion it as a "pop" record gone awry, but nonetheless it is definitely electronic in composition.
I really enjoy this record. I deliberately didn't read any reviews because I wanted to surprise myself when I popped the disc in, and...sure enough when Mr. Woody Woodpecker started guffawing like an idiot I broke into an unabashed smile. This guy has guts! He puts all his arrangements right in your face, using what sounds like crappy homemade analogs and some insane pitch-shifted squealing vocals. It is shameless, demented, and absolutely hilarious. This isn't to say Dan shouldn't be given proper attention: witness the motherboard shredding electronic fuckery that accompanies the muscular baseline of "Snake Mistakes." One of the real standout tracks is "Pink Batman." I won't spoil it, but I will say it has a hypnotic repetitiveness that is shared by the best post-rock bands.
Ok, so I'm going on and on when you should just listen. I promise if you keep open ears you will enjoy this record immensely. Dan Deacon has instantly crafted a unique spot on the musical map, one completely devoid of pretensions and infused with large amounts of FUN!

INKlings- Acid Jams vol. 2 and The Moon are really good ambient/techno/drone type stuff. I've really been enjoying them.
Last night one of the opening bands for Lymbyc Systym was a ambient/drone group called attachedhands who just blew me away. To me they made the whole club feel like it was floating and in some other-worldly atmosphere.
Lately I've been getting into stuff from Echoboy. If you like Mathew Dear then you'd probably like Echoboy as well. In fact I made a mix of stuff from Dear and Echoboy, and it's awesome.
Anybody been listening to Tujiko Noriko? I found these albums for download:
Shojo Toshi - 2001 Solo - 2007
I heard of her scrounging around on pitchfork...I'm learning that it's worthwhile to sort out the albums rated mid to hi 7s because I used to think it was a disparaging rating, but I'm learning to disregard the numbers more and more. Anyway, this stuff is really purty, found sound, glitchy electro-pop. Solo is reminding me of a mello, JapaneseBjork a bit. Check it out.

nice! Thanks CBA!
My pleasure vitunkrapula. I really was amazed at how that album manages to incorporate so many styles and still keep a constant flow throughout.
Also Jglass, I checked out attachedhands on their myspace site and I was pretty impressed by the few songs they have to stream. Do you know if they have any proper albums out? If not, that's a shame because I'd like to get a full-sized dose of these guys.
As for other electronic stuff I've been into as of late: "Load Blown" by Black Dice has been playing quite a bit. I love how they have always possessed a unique sound, it's playful but at the same time disturbingly surreal. Load Blown has a very strong rhythmic element like "Broken Ear Record." I still cannot say whether I prefer this latest to that album but we will see.
Another album I'm currently dissecting is Cokiyu's "Mirror Flake." The formula is pretty simple: downtempo programmed beats (very unobtrusive), shimmering synths, and female vocals (I hear a similarity in timbre to Asobi Seksu's vocalist, although Cokiyu is considerably mellower). Some might say the album is too one-dimensional, but I enjoy albums that retain a dedicated sonic palette throughout. Definitely a fantastic chilled-out vibe from this one.

I heard this recently - I concur. I heard a little AC influence on a couple tracks - really good stuff.

That sounds very close to Solo, the Tujiko Noriko album I mentioned above ( song samples ). Solo will score big on my year end list. I'll be sure to look for Cokiyu too.

They didn't have a merch table. I sent them a friend request and a message and they didn't respond/accept.
If they do respond then I'll let you know if they have any lps/eps/cd-rs. I really hope they do.
