You're more than welcome RL. I find that electronica, possibly more than other genres, has just a massive amount of unheard of artists (owing to the power of home-processing and the appeal of DIY). For these reasons I think a lot of great electronic music goes unheard and I try to find as much stuff under the radar as possible. With that in mind, if you have any recommendations from this year (or earlier...) then don't hesitate to throw some names out. Smiler

Unfortunately, I'm not much of a trailblazer when it comes to electronic music (I'm better at discovering obscure folk, singer-songwriter, and alt-country types), but if I do run across something relatively unknown that I think you might like I'll be sure to let you know. Smiler

From Here We Go Sublime is the warmest, most organic piece of electronic music I've ever heard. The tendency of electonic to be cold, tinny and emotionless has kept me out of it, but this album is remarkably human.

You know, I would say the exact opposite. From Here We Go Sublime strikes me as a more purely electronic, cold, and aloof album than either Gui Boratto or Pantha du Prince or Stendeck, the 3 electronic albums that I love from this year. I really don't like the Field at all, ad I doubt if it has much crossover potential for more rock-oriented music fans.

Okay, I hope I like this. i just payed 24 dollars on Amazon to get it. It's currently not on Itunes or emusic, and I don't know if I can wait to see if it'll be there in the future.

I bet you'll like it, MF. To me it was immediately likeable and only got better with subsequent listens.

The only way I was able to listen to some Stendeck was on MySpace. I wish I could hear the whole album somewhere though.

anybody have good suggestions?

i have always loved hot chip, and after seeing them at bonnaroo i'm simply blown away. i just picked up fugiya and miyagi, which i'm falling in love with.

anybody else in that same vein (dancey, guitars, synths, harmony) that people like and i should check out?

Future Conditional - We Don't Just Disappear

No guitars, but it's a nice dancey electronic record with vocals. A bit more subdued and less funky than the bands you mentioned, but it's a great album.

Well, if i was to classify myself as belonging to a certain sound or preferred genre at all, it would be one of more rock influence than anything electronic - and From Here We Go Sublime if my favourite record of the year.

I agree -- it's EASILY my favorite electronic record this year. I find it to be very organic, warm, and beautiful. I love it.

Personally, I'm surprised by all the dislike for the record.

Well, I think I'm the only one hating on it. I've given it several chances, but each time it just does nothing for me. I just don't hear anything special at all. Oh well, to each his own.

The Field is pretty good, but not worthy of a top 20 of 2007 for me.

More recommendations from me: Loden has reissued his album "Valeen Hope." While not technically a 2007 release, I hope this record gets more attention because it is really fantastic.

Loden makes electronic music that really doesn't fit neatly into wider genres like IDM, ambient, or shoegaze (?!) yet I would use all three of these "keywords" to describe his sound. There are pulsing eighth-note chord progressions that remind me of m83, beeps and clips that recall the most minimal glitch music, ambient drones and soft pads that would easily be at home on a typical IDM release, even clean acoustic guitar strums...yet Loden seems to forge a new mixture by combining these parts. In addition he is not afraid of de-tuned synths that often create tension and give the album an almost otherworldly vibe. Good stuff, check it out!

Well, you haven't failed me yet, so I'll definitely be giving Loden a listen. I'm having trouble finding it on Slsk right away, but I'm sure I'll find it before long.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the disco-infused After Dark compilation is really, REALLY solid. The whole thing is remarkably cohesive for an album featuring several artists.

It's one of the best releases of the year, electronic or otherwise, to be sure.

Popnoname - The White Album

Another really good electro-pop album, similar to Future Conditional. About half the songs have vocals.

I originally thought it was a bit boring, but after a few more listens, it's one of the best electronic albums this year. Usually long, repetitive songs start getting old, but these seem to keep my interest for some reason. I was sure this was going to be another overhyped album like Isolée's was two years ago (which I liked but didn't think was deserving of its score) but it wasn't.

The only album I feel can rival it right now is Justice's. Every track except "Tthhee Ppaarrttyy" is awesome, and "Stress" completely blows me away.

I also like A-Trak's Dirty South Dance, even though I don't really like crunk music at all, it's tons of fun and much more listenable than a Lil' Jon album would be.

Yeah, I like the Justice album a lot too, but "The Party" is maybe the worst song I've heard all year. I cannot understand why they would put such a piece of shit on their album amid all those great songs.

Lol, that is actually one of my favourite tracks on the album.
