I've heard a lot of iffy stuff about it so I haven't bothered checking it out. Is it good? I heard they've left their psych roots...

It's a change for them, but it isn't unexpected. You can still hear a lot of the psy influences and there are a couple songs with bad vocals, but overall it is good and is an interesting new sound for them in a genre that hasn't been invented yet. Overall, I'd give it a 6.5/10. I'd suggest downloading it first to see if you like it before spending cash on it. There are still a few good rave songs on it.

Black Moth Super Rainbow has a new record coming out. I think they share a similar aesthetic to BoC with their hazy analog synths. Of course if you hate vocoder then it's a dealbreaker, but a lot of their past stuff has been a great mixture of challenging textures/sounds and great hooks. We'll see how good it is when it drops later this year, although the new track "Sun Lips" is streaming on their website www.blackmothsuperrainbow.com and it is pretty addictive.

This was a great call. Totally loving this album.

Future Conditional - We Don't Just Disappear

Another great 2007 electro-pop album.

I'm not even sure if I'm posting in the right catagory here, but the new Justice album is one of the hottest things to drop in a while, I believe. "dvno" is one of the best songs I've ever heard, and there's still a million more on there that drop ass(I'm making "drop ass" a positive thing here). Big Grin

I really like that album as well. My only complaint is that "The Valentine" is bad and "The Party" is flat atrocious. Those two songs are all that's keeping that from being a great album.

Attention IDM fans Stendeck has really upped the ante with his massive new disc "Faces." It's pretty hard to shock anyone with the stock "pad synth + crunchy beats" formula (a la Proem/Gridlock you name it) but I really love this record. One thing important that Stendeck captures is the up-down emotional swing usually missing from electronic albums. Definitely recommended by yours truly.

In what way is it a shock, CBA? Are there any bands you could compare them to?

I love it as well. Great psychedelic summer album. After a few listens the synthesized singing voice didn't bother me. It was just part of the 'sound'. Great stuff.

I've been getting into 'Sensuous' by Cornelius. I didn't know much about his stuff until recently. He's been around since the late 90's. That one and 'Point' are worth looking into.

The immediate comparison is to Gridlock and Proem (that's just what I hear). However, Stendeck is much less afraid of big melodies, and even bigger beats. It's hard to describe why this record has captivated me, it just achieves an amazing balance of grit, melody, and beat. Not to mention the song quality is stunning, there is nary a misstep on the entire 17 track behemoth. I don't know if you are ethically opposed to downloading but if you can download and try a couple tracks you will have a much better idea than my terrible description. Once again, the album is "Faces" by Stendeck.

What do you guys think of Dan Deacon's 'Superman of the Rings'? I love the music, but I can't get used to the chipmunky vocals on alot of the tracks. I thought multiple listens would get me over it, but.........nah. I like The Emperor Machine's 'Aimee Tallulah's Hypnotized'. It's not high energy electronic. It's more easy groove kind of stuff, but it's good background music for parties and whatnot.

Spiderman of the Rings is pretty good, but as far as electro goes in '07, the Matthew Dear and Justice albums have my highest praise thus far.

Wow, I'm really digging this Stendeck stuff, CBA. Really great stuff, possibly better than Gui Boratto's Chromophobia. Thanks.
