I know very little about electronica..I've heard and enjoyed Aphex Twin, DJ Shadow, and a few other big names, but that's about it.

I'm looking specifically for electronica with deep, powerful bass...the kind that would give a subwoofer a workout. I want to test my new sound system and hear its potential. And hopefully, it would be good music, as well Smiler

Any suggestions?

Well, when I think heavy bass, I think house. House is an extremely broad genre, so I'll throw out a couple:

Phuture- Acid Trax
Gui Boratto- Chromophobia
Pantha Du Prince- This Bliss

The first is a classic (chicago acid house), the second is a great new progressive house album, and the Pantha Du Prince album could be argued as a techno album with house leanings.

Thanks Mike, I'll check those out. I was just listening to The Field's "From Here We Go Sublime" and pretty much every song has a persistent deep bass drum beat (at around 132bpm it seems). I'm curious, what sub-genre is The Field?

I'd call The Field techno and be done with it, but those who specialize in technicalities work call it minimal or ambient techno. I wasn't a fan of that album for a long time, but it is starting to grow on me. But yeah, electronic should get a lot more action than it does.

Anything heavily dub-influenced, so that includes a lot of minimal tech. I'd recommend Pole in that regard in addition to what's been said.

Some other suggestions:

Photek - Modus Operandi
Goldie - Timeless
Burial - Untrue
Skream - Skream!
James T. Cotton - The Dancing Box
Audion - Suckfish
