This is slowly becoming more popular and there really isn't a better forum for it, although it isn't defined by any genre.
The first mash-up I ever heard was about 10 years ago. Orbital put a live version of their song Halcyon on a disc and it was amazing. In the middle of the song, they just break down and mash up Linda Ronstadt's "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and Bon Jovi's "Shot Through the Heart". It was beautiful. They flow together perfectly. I was hooked.
More recently, I'm sure most of you heard about DJ Danger Mouse mixing Jay-Z's The Black Album with the Beatles White Album. That is one amazing disc. And then of course,
Party Ben does "Boulevard of Broken Songs", mixing Green Day and Oasis perfectly, as well as Travis and Aerosmith/Eminem. Great tune download it
here if you haven't heard it. (That is the actual mp3, so you need to right click the link and choose "save as").
If you ever want to hear some great, some not so great and some just fun mash-ups, listen to the SIXX MIXX. You can find tons of their mixes on Party Ben's site
hereAnyone else know of any good Mash Ups?
