Hey, what genre of electronica would Crystal Method fall under? And others like Chemical Brothers? I LOVE these two groups. Plus, does anyone know what others out there,(in the electronica music world), that are like the Crystal Method and Chemical Brothers? I am VERY new to this genre. I love all kinds of music and really got into the Crstal Method and Chemical Brothers and that got me very interested in others. I like and own cds of the Overseers and Dirty Vegas and Moby and fatboy slim as well. Any type of direction from those groups that you see I might be going to? Any help would be great! Thanks.

Mainly dont like it because it is old.Became prevelant in the mid 90's and had its little splash.I had a chemical brothers album and it was cool at the time. The only artist that i really liked that came out from that period was the prodigy.
Really has not seen much of a renovation. There is a bunch of albums with that sound, but you would be better off just finding a certian handfull from the heyday of breaks.
I have been listening to electronic music for the majority of my life, i have listened to and enjoyed music in probabbly almost all sub-genres of electronic music.I couldnt even begin to pick one style that is my favorite, it would probabbly change week by week.

That's cool. Thanks for the info. There are so many different "sub-genres" though. I'd love to listen to all of them to see what other "types" I'd like besides the "breaks". I do think that IDM is more my taste since I don't go clubing anymore. Older and married. I just don't want to waste any time listening to any bad stuff when you or other "experienced" electronica people know what the "good stuff" is. I think I'd be very interested in some types of trippy ambient type of music. Stuff that let's you just sit back and trip out or chill out. Commercially succesful or not.
Thanks again.

Found a new Crystal Method fan site when looking for information on the new album. Looks like they are working on content and starting a message board like the old one.
On the topic of The Chemical Brothers, please listen to Surrender. I think that record is more of an electronic record than all their other ones. Previous records proclaimed a huge hip-hop sound, but Surrender is truly fantastic. Bernard Sumner guests on the record, as does Noel Gallagher for the 2nd time (I believe).
My album definer would have to be The Sunshine Underground.
It pays to kill anyone who has information.

I too like TCM, they are the right up there with the very best in Electronica. One of my TCM favs is "High Roller" from the Vegas album. Yes, its an oldie (1990s is old?) but its a goodie. I also like the Chemical Bros, e.g., "Hey Girls, Hey Boys". No doubt there are current big name artists who rise to this standard. I've also found lots of electronica goodies from relatively unknown artists on Myspace (a wealth of opportunity with many free downloads. For example, Hypothetical Theory or Devil, as he calls himself. Check out "The Kuru" and "Radio Ugly". - CW
Thanks, IsaacAshe. I did check out these two, via their myspace pages. Midfield General is not even close to TCM in style or appeal (at least to my ears). Plump DJs has a style similar to TCM, but all the numbers on their player sound pretty much the same, no real creative touch. - CW

What are the best Crystal Method albums to start with? I'm leaning towards "Vegas" but honestly it doesn't seem like they've gotten good reviews - still, I love Chemical Bros so I'm obligated to grab some~

The Crystal Method Nominated for a Grammy and have a new video: "Come back clean"
“For its first studio album in five years, the Crystal Method — electronic savants Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland — has drawn up a predictably eclectic guest list, ranging from New Order bassist Peter Hook to rising hip-hoppers LMFAO. The result is a club-ready collection of fizzy dance tracks and atmospheric reveries, from the Eastern-flavored single ‘Drown in the Now,’ featuring Matisyahu, to the dreamy, percolating ‘Slipstream,’ with indie rocker Jason Lytle.” —Elysa Gardner, USA TODAY, May 12, 2009
“...big, heavy beats, pumping bass and layers of wavy synthesizers…Like the duo’s previous three albums, it’s sly, nuanced and hypnotic, and while at times it may work best turned up to a wall-rattling 10 at a packed club with slashing laser lights and smoky vapors, it’s a pretty good listening experience, too, with pop tunes and ballads rounding out the collection. While it retains the pulsing pull-through and anesthetizing repetition of the best rave music, the Crystal Method’s evolving form of big-beat electronica is characterized by tempo shifts, tranquil interludes and sparks of humor, a style Messrs.”—Jim Fusilli, WALL STREET JOURNAL, May 20, 2009
THE CRYSTAL METHOD, America’s top electronic act, is closing an impressive 2009 with a Grammy® nomination in the “Best Electronic/Dance Album” category for DIVIDED BY NIGHT, the fourth studio album from the duo of Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland. This year’s nomination marks THE CRYSTAL METHOD’s second running in this category; their release Legion of Boom was nominated in 2004. Easily its most inventive and accomplished to date, Divided By Night is THE CRYSTAL METHOD’s masterwork. It features a vast array of guests including vocalists Emily Haines of Metric, Justin Warfield of She Wants Revenge and his wife Stefanie King Warfield, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, rappers LMFAO plus players like bassist Peter Hook (New Order) and drummer extraordinaire Samantha Maloney (Peaches, Hole, Chelsea Girls).
Up against several major label offerings, including David Guetta’s One Love (Astralwerks/EMI), Lady Gaga’s The Fame (Interscope), LMFAO’s Party Rock(Interscope) and Pet Shop Boys’ Yes (Astralwerks/EMI), Divided By Night marks the only independent release nominated in the “Best Electronic/Dance Album” category. Released on May 12 on the duo’s independent imprint Tiny E Records, Divided By Night has seen major success across the music landscape. It debuted across the Billboard charts: #39 on the Top 200 Albums; #2 on the Top Electronic Albums; #3 on the Top Digital Albums; and #4 on the Top Independent Albums. Additionally, Divided By Night landed several slots on Amazon.com’s best-of list for 2009, including Best Albums of the Year (#79); Best Song of the Year for “Drown in the Now” (#46); and Best Electronic Album (#3).
“We are just ecstatic! Two albums in a row nominated, wow!,” said Jordan of the nomination. “I just wish our albums didn’t come five years apart. Congrats to all the nominees and we can’t wait to dress up on January 31st.” Adds partner Kirkland, “We are so excited! It’s truly an honor to be nominated again. Make sure to check out the album.”
The recent Grammy® announcement serves as the icing on the cake for what has been one of the busiest years for THE CRYSTAL METHOD to date. Operating as an independent entity to promote the album, THE CRYSTAL METHOD launched an all-out marketing campaign helmed first-handedly byKirkland and Jordan with independent teams and strategies arranged directly by the duo. Following several high-profile performances at SXSW, THE CRYSTAL METHOD kicked off an extensive live tour at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival as the headlining act at the popular Sahara tent on Friday, April 17, marking the duo’s first official tour as a live act in five years. They followed Coachella with a mind-blowing live performance at Electric Daisy Carnival on Saturday, June 27 in Los Angeles, where they played one of the largest single-day attended music festivals in the U.S. with over 90,000 fans in attendance.
In addition to several music video premieres and cross-promotional campaigns, including a remix contest for the most recent single “Come Back Clean” in conjunction with the music-based social network Indaba Music, THE CRYSTAL METHOD also launched their first-ever customized iPhone/iPod app to help fans interact with the duo and one another. Additionally, THE CRYSTAL METHOD recently provided the score for the ESPN film X Games 3D: The Movie, where the duo’s various works were featured throughout the film including original tracks and reworked versions of material from Divided By Night, as well as from their earlier records. The DVD version of the film will be released in the first week of January 2010.
So much electronica has gone the way of disco or that awful minimalist crapola, but TCM's music stands out, heavy beats, cool effects. I'll have to check out their new album, "Come Back Clean". Up until now, "Legion of Boom" has been my favorite. - CW

"I think I'd be very interested in some types of trippy ambient type of music. Stuff that let's you just sit back and trip out or chill out."
Just a few suggestions (of very, very many)of some artists.
Brian Eno - Ambient 1 Music for Airports Orbital - Blue Album Loscil - Plume (highly, highly recommended) Massive Attack - 100th Window The Orb - Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
It's a bit of a mixed bag - but all generally trippy and ambient.
And my 2 cents - as far as Crystal Method is concerned - Legion of Boom is my fav album.
