This is easily my album of 09 so far. I've listened to this a few times now and it's freakin' tight.
Song to song it's so spastic and diverse, yet the overall form of the album displays amazing continuity and thematic evolution. This is the only recent album I've heard that comes close to Cornelius in terms of formal brilliance.
The whole thing has this exaggerated slow-pacing swagger that's fun to walk down the street to.
He really understands loop based music- his approach on this album is to make a loop that's interesting for five minutes, then truncate it at one.
No Lights Still Rock is freaking amazing.
My only complaint is some of the reverbs sound a tad cheap, the record is so heavily dependent on reverbs, it makes me think of how awesome it could've been if he worked with a great engineer and some top class hardware verb. But still awesome.
