I know he could be put in electronic or in hiphop. If they had a category for instrumental hip-hop and organic electronica i would put it there.
I just wanted to see if anybody else appreciated this artist as much as i do.I do use the word artist.I think daedelus epitomizes what it takes to be a true artist in todays over-populated musical world. Not saying other musicians are not great.I just think it takes something to be daedelus and make this kind of music.
First off he is really busy releasing 7 albums already including collabos with radioinactive and busdriver "the weather" and the appropriatlet titled instrumental remix of said album "rethinking the weather".Also the so-so collaborartion with frosty as snow patrol.Besides being prolific...most of his work stays similar...but doesnt. It is kind of wierd...you can pick up certain aspects of his style of production. In the same vein though i think he is ever-evolving especially from "invention" to "of snowdinia".Which I love.I amnot a huge fan of "a gent agent" but it is inmy collection.
I first heard of him on Her's Is his debut album.I put it off and didnt really think about it until "invention" came out and re-kindled my interest. This
review had a big part in it.I still think it is one of the more informative and insightfull reviews pitchfork has done. Also of the
articles i happend to know of.I am sure there is alot more info out there on
daedelus that i have not found. I am just curious to hear what more people think about him.
I have tried to gather together most of his work. From his remixes and varying 12".To his work that has been remixed by the likes of prefuse 73, madlib, anti-pop consortium and venitian snares among others.
I kind of thought of this in the last couple hours so sorry if it is scatter brained and misspelled.I think they call that stuff character.
Anyways.Feel free to post thoughts and info that u have found.
Is he the new king of found-sounds?Very interesting sample choices.I also love the accordian sample from madvillainy taken from one of the tracks on invention.I cant remember wich one off the top of my head.
