I think almost every reg here knows who Girl Talk is. Yes, a very enjoyable album, but I still like Night Ripper more (and yes I'm listening to the correct version now). Greg Gillis has a nearly flawless flow.
P.S. You should have posted this in the Electronic forum. This topic will likely be moved.

I believe that this album is very interesting, very singular, and totally representative of how schizophrenia in music can be totally amazing at times (though I'm not suggesting Gillis is a shizoid).
I like what this guy does, but at the same time i feel a sense of familiarity in his music, as if the source material was intended to be mashed and pieced together this way. It's odd, i never thought Twisted Sister could NOT suck total balls.

He's got skillz and I can appreciate the craftsmanship, it just doesn't do much for me personally. I feel like I've had my fill of it after one listen.
But I think Girl Talk is interesting. Like ADD music. Sort of representative of the ipod generation maybe? I know people who are just constantly listening to 20 seconds of a song on their ipod, getting bored of it, and switching to something else. It's almost like Girl Talk kind of does the work for you by throwing around all these mash-ups.
I found a few of his songs interesting on Night Rippers (Ok, I found Minute By Minute interesting, and nothing else). But the new album does far less for me, I don't even enjoy a whole song. With songs that skip around as much as Girl Talk's do, I enjoy a few parts of most every song he does, but overall he just does nothing for me. I think he's definitely skilled at what he does, but I really don't think he would get near the acclaim he does today if he didn't sample "indie" songs that all the hipsters recognize.
But hell, if I want to dance, fuck it, Girl Talk's always good for that.
definitely not as good as night ripper, but i do love night ripper. this one's still a lot of fun, but i feel like its appeal has more to do with the songs that are sampled themselves, unlike night ripper where the magic came from the awesome combos he'd pull off. case in point: my favorite moment on feed the animals is the fleetwood mac guitar solo vs tone loc vs trina, but i can't tell if that's because it's a great mashup or if it's just because i love that song and that solo ('cause i do). anyway, i'd be interested to see what everyone else's favorite "moments" are.
I just wrote an article reviewing Feed the Animals. Read it and let me know what you think.
I personally think it's much better than Night Ripper, although I wish some of the faster parts of Night Ripper (i.e. Laffy Taffy part) appeared on Feed The Animals.

i mean, he samples many shitty tracks, and you guys like it?? If Girl talk would have commercial success, almost none of you would talk about how good it is. I didnt like what i heard. Maybe i need more listens...
i'm pretty sure the laffy taffy part was my absolute least favorite part of night ripper. and yes, i would definitely still like girl talk if i had first heard him on mtv or the radio, but i'm pretty sure i'm more accepting of empty calorie pop than most everyone here.
I had hoped that he had evolved after Night Ripper, but he hasn't and that was a bit sad. Just more of the same, and even more pitched voices. Some great blends in there, but it shows that he's a bit stuck in his own style.
I liked Night ripper better when it came out.. but now I hardly listen to any of them. It's great to see him live though, even though he's mainly just playing the album with a few edits.
