So I just learned that I like "House" music because I love this remixer called Kris Menace who's done remixes for LCD Soundsystem, Underworld, etc. and I think they're orgasmic. I only have Basement Jaxx albums so far...
Allmusic has been my only reference but if someone would like to narrow it down that would be cool
There's a lot of different styles of House and they all have their own sound. I don't have a clue what he sounds like and I'm having trouble with java, so I can't listen to any of the samples...
My two picks are (and I think most of the ppl here would agree with these):
... Is house supposed to be big in Chicago? My crowd really likes the "hard" techno that just drills into your head. I never really have delved into specific genres of electronic other than Big Beat.
Haven't heard of either of them but the Phuture looks great, will be getting

I'm going to say this partly because it's what I did, and partly as a cop-out because I haven't really listened to any house in a couple years and can't remember the names of many albums, but one of the best things to do as far as getting into house goes is to listen to some internet radio streams, especially last.fm since you can also see related artists, and take note of who you particularly enjoy. Many of the best producers don't release albums in any traditional sense, and the various scenes are always moving forward so quickly. Personally I tend to find minimal/microhouse, tribal house, and deep house pretty interesting.
More specifically, I am a huge fan of everything Matthew Dear has done, with Leave Luck to Heaven being one of my favorite albums of any genre.

House music originated in Chicago... Detroit techno and Chicago house.
And I prefer hardcore styles as well (which is why I haven't listened to much house in a while).

I only have Asa Breed, I'll be checking this one out for sure now.
