Saturdays = Youth aint no Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts. But then that, for the record, is one of my all-time favourite records, so that’s not to discount it at all!
Tonally, it’s probably a cross between Before the Dawn Heals Us and the dreamy aesthetic of Digital Shades Vol 1.
For better or worse, it has much more structured, 80s influenced pop-style melodies than Lost Ghosts. Better, as in the delicate ‘Graveyard Girl’ and excellent ‘Kim & Jesse.’ Worse, as in ‘Up!’ (I mean, what is with those Celine Dion and Enya-style vox?).
Still, it has most of the things I love about M83– those transportive shoegaze moments and that sense of sadness and longing. I'm enjoying it. A lot.
Man, I don't know about this one. Some of the tracks strike me as downright cheesy, especially "Up!" and "We Own the Sky." The best tracks are the mostly instrumental ones like "Couleurs" and "You, Appearing."

Though I'll admit the new one is a far reach from the debut, I like this one much, MUCH more than Before the Dawn Heals Us. I honestly can't stand behind a single song on that record.
But I hear you on "Up!" It's definitely not one of my favorites. Some of the other vocal tracks are nice, though -- especially "Skin of the Night."
