Strange that a double disc album could be a renowned artist's best work.
At some point, when I decided to get into indie Electronic, I pretty much started from the beginning with Aphex Twin, from SAW 1, SAW 2, Richard D. James, and his new one, and I thought they were pretty good but nothing incredible. Then one day I saw "26 Mixes for Cash" at the library, and seeing as it got 5 stars on allmusic, it coulda been a worthy rip.
Oh how wrong I was - to anyone big on Aphex Twin or indie Electronic in general - I guaruntee you this is his best work to date, both discs! It's what I've been looking for, dense, mysterious, and actually interesting. Yea, they're all supposedly covers, but they sound extremely different from their originals obviously.
So for anyone that thinks they got all the Aphex Twin they need, you may be missing out BIG time .. just a heads up.

I still haven't heard that one - I'll regret saying that but it's true. You're the second person on this forum to reccomend it - maybe I'd better get listening.
My favourite CD is the Come to Daddy 'single', although I have pretty much everything up to Druqks. I sort of lost interest after that, possibly because Aphex Twin had been stolen and borrowed by everyone from Squarepusher to Radiohead. All of a sudden, the sounds just weren't as groundbreaking and you knew how it was being done - even the plug-ins were common knowledge - but at the time he was amazing.
Yep, the double album of re-mixes is excellent listening, altho' I think I like the Richard D. James album the best, as it's actually his own compositions; making for a more organic record, more of a piece.

I have to say I found 26 remixes a bit hit and miss. No doubt some of the mixes on there are really top notch, but in particular the 2nd disc has a few tracks that aren't upto the usual high standard. I had fully hyped up this release in my mind, some of the remixes look to be sensational on paper, but I think my high expectations wrecked it a little. Chosen Lords is sensational. All the best stuff from the Analord stuff (supposedly, I haven't heard any of the stuff not on Chosen Lords, pretty hard to get your hands on Analord. Has anyone heard anything from Analord not on Chosen Lords? What's it like?

^ Nah I haven't.. in fact haven't even heard Chosen Lords yet!!
BTW, a lot of Aphex Twin is "harsh on the ears" .. I find the 2x disc interesting in that sense cause he actually pulled it off right, unlike Richard D James.

My vote goes for either of the Ambient works albums (both are wonderful), the Hangable Auto Bulb record (under the AFX moniker), or maybe even Drukqs..... so underrated!!
My favorite songs are "Windowlicker," "Arched Maid Via RDJ," "Tha," "4," and "Vordhosbn." He's got so many outstanding tracks though...

Wow, nevermind. I just got Chosen Lords, and I must say that it's now the best Aphex Twin album. Strange that this guy just keeps getting better and better!? Or am I crazy? Because I didn't find SAW1 or 2 that captivating, nor the Richard D. James album....
Chosen Lords is perfection.

Holy shit--I didn't even know he came out with a new album last year. I must get it. Like today. I love (love, love) Drukqs. It makes me squirm in (non-sexual) delight. I can't wait to hear Chosen Lords!
anytime i listen to 4 i get goosebumps. that track is just so.. incredible. must say that his ambient works are probably my favorite, followed closely by richard, surfing on sine waves and 26-mixes for cash. I have caustic window and the entire analord series on my computer but I haven't gotten around to listening to either yet. Did anybody else here about aphex actually doing some shows in the future? no doubt in europe but it's nice to see that he's coming out of his bomb shelter.
