Wow, I just listened to the self-titled album by an obscure European electronic band King Q4, and I am amazed by how good it is. From beginning to end it is fantastic. It's all instrumental, and if I had to describe it I'd say it sounds something like a combination of Four Tet, Boards of Canada, and the Beta Band.
It's actually the side project of the drummer from the band Encre, who play equally amazing music. Encre is about 2/3 organic and 1/3 electronic. Their album Flux from 2004 is incredible. They're mostly instrumental, but on about half the songs, there's a guy kind of speak-singing.
I'm really excited about this stuff. It's probably the best stuff I've heard since the middle of last year.

Definitely. Sometimes, when I go for several days or even sometimes weeks exploring new stuff and coming up empty, I wonder if it's all just a waste of time. But then I discover something wonderful like this and it's all worth it again.

Thanks for mentioning this, Imprezu. I really can't get enough of this type of ambient electronic stuff. I don't think it's quite as consistently good as Christ or Boards of Canada, but quite good nonetheless. The only thing that really bothers me about the album is that some of the samples are really, really corny. There's more than one song here ruined for me because of excessive use of corny samples.
Speaking of Christ, I can't wait until his new album drops. You got any idea when it's coming out, Imprezu? On the Benbecula website it just says sometime this year. And it's kind of hard to Google a band named Christ.
Coincidentally, I just had a couple Mormon missionaries stop at my house. They asked me if I believe in Jesus Christ. I told them no. I was nice to them though. I can't really get mad at those people. They're trying to do good, even if they aren't. They made a tepid attempt to convert me, there was an abbreviated theological debate, and then they left.

that kelpe album is a strong one, i agree some of the samples are kind of odd choices.
ambient electronic stuff ehh...hmmmn i know there have been a few that i have been caining lately...
did u check that milosh album 'meme' ... it heads down that road quite a bit.
i will scour around and find a few things that i have been listening to along those lines, its just not hitting me right now.
as far as christ goes, i am not really sure when his albums gonna drop, maybe try and email him...i remember i emailed him a while back and he seemed cool, most those guys are.

Last year I listened to Capitol K's most recent album, Nomad Junk, which came out in 2005. It definitely had some good songs on it, but it had some pretty weak ones too. Overall, I had split feelings about it. I've just listened to his 2000 album Island Row, however, and it is dynamite. Not a single weak track, and several are fantastic, especially the first track, "City." I've only listened to it twice, but I think it's already one of my favorite electronic albums ever. Hopefully, it can stand the test of time.

Man, I've been hitting jackpot with electronic stuff lately. I've never heard of him before, but Shpongle's 2005 album, Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost, is effin' insane. So so good. The only weak spots for me are the parts of the last two tracks that include some jazz, which I hate. Other than that though, it is golden. I hate to make hasty proclamations, but this may challenge BoC's Music Has the Right to Children for my favorite pure electronic album ever. We'll see how I feel about it in a few months.
Also, I didn't even know this until recently, but Christ came out with an EP earlier this year, Vernor Vinge. It's good stuff. The dDamage remix of "Ray Breakout" is particularly good, and I'm generally not a fan of remixes. If this is a sign of what's to come with his full-length later this year, I'm excited indeed.

OK, so I still like that Shpongle album, but not quite as much as I did on first listen.
Another album, however, is really getting better the moer I listen to it, and that's Lemodie by Ochre. It's a 2006 release on the Benbecula label, which is quickly turning into one of my favorite labels. Aside from Nathan Fake's Drowning In A Sea of Love, this is the best pure electronic album I've heard all year, and right now I've got it plugged in at #3 on my overall list.
It's not unlike Boards of Canada, but nobody would mistake this music for BOC either. It's got fewer drones and has a bit more going on than most BOC stuff. It's also got more of a strange, dark, creepy feel to it, though it's not extreme in that way. Not much that's warm and soothing here. It's pretty spectacular though, if you ask me. Not a poor song on the album, and about half are fantastic. I'm gonna have to check this guy's back catalogue.

Well I just got the new reissue of Pyschocandy (JAMC- Jesus and Mary Chain) a few days ago and I've been listening to a lot of that but I took a break to listen to Forever Changes after Arthur Lee died.

Been enjoying John Foxx's Tiny Colour Movies lately. Reminds me Jean Michel-Jarre and Eno at times, and Kraftwerk, too. Though there are vocals on his other recordings, this release is all instrumental. The booklet with the cd explains pretty nicely the story/film behind each track. Great stuff.

I didn't get AFX's Chosen Lords until yesterday, and I've been really enjoying it so far. One of his better albums, I would say. And it helps that I never heard the Analord tracks that didn't make it, so I wasn't at all disappointed.
Another album I've been enjoying lately (I'm even listening to it right now) is Uusitalo's Tulenkantaja. I haven't heard the rest of Sasu Ripatti's work (Vladislav Delay, Luomo) but I think I'm going to look into it after hearing this.

House music generally just bores me. The new Lindstrom is pretty good, but too long and repetitive for me to want to listen to it much.
