Out from Outwhere was Amon Tobin's breakout album? Any of the previous three would serve as more appropriate entry points, with my recommendation going to the most acessible, Supermodified (BMW would have already introduced you to "Get Your Snack On," and Coca-Cola to "Four Ton Mantis"). Since it didn't do anything for you, RL, I find it unlikely you'll like anything he's done. Some people don't get Amon Tobin. Life goes on.

This so-called "Canada" you hail from might be different, Filmore, but we couldn't escape the hype around Endtroducing. Conversely, if I hadn't been paying attention, I easily could have missed The Private Press. (That reminds me — when my car was broken into in 2002, the thief took Not Breathing's Starry Wisdom, but left The Private Press behind. I'd still rather have the Not Breathing.)

Christ-Metamorphic Reproduction

I have stated before but will again. These are 2 excellent albums for the BOC fan, or any fan of good electronic music in general.

I really like the newish Mount Sims album.
I believe it is entitled 'wildlight'.It is pleasant electro.Very 80's.

I was waiting for this album from them.It seemed as it was along time coming. There other stuff is mediocre at best.

As well as the self-titled manhead album.Discoey dance stuff which I usually dont like, but this is done well.

I'm listening to Two lone Swordsmen, The Fifth Mission, and I'm liking it. It's not anything that will really blow you away, but it's better than most of the electronic stuff I've tried. I think it was their first album.

I got a lot out of Two Lone Swordsmen's Stay Down, if I remember. It wasn't anything earth shattering either, but pretty solid stuff.

Andrew Weatherall is a genius and one of the best electronic producers out there.Check his creds for proof.

TLS is solid.Like you both said they are not going to break down any boundaries, but they do make good music.

Their debut is still there best.Fifth missiona and then i like tiny reminders and stay down quite a bit.

I've listened to TLS's Tiny Reminders a couple of times. It's weird how the album is laid out. The first 8 tracks are not bad, but too repetitive for me. They just seem boring. Then the last 11 tracks are almost all good and interesting. They seem not to be nearly as boring as the first 8 tracks and have much more melody. The Fifth Mission was probably better overall.

I tried both albums. I thought Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic was garbage. Really lame heavily reverbed voice samples and not very emotionally moving.

The Christ album sounds much better. I haven't delved into it enough to say just how good it is, but it is undoubtedly good.

And speaking of good ambient/electronic stuff, right now I'm listening to Polmo Polpo - Like Hearts Swelling, and it sounds really promising. It's weird, just analyzing intellectually, it seems like it should be boring, yet it sounds great. It sounds like something I could listen to over and over and never get sick of.

Well there is alot more to enjoy than to hate i think. It is not a breathtaking album that will move you emotionally. It is a well produced album that achieves what he had set out to do.

That polmo polpo album i think is recorded live.i really dont like him very much.I heard his debut and it was mediocre.

I really hate ambient music in general. It is completely boring and a waste of time in general.Polmo polpo borders too much on ambient and not enough on electronic.

I dont need to be challenged by the music i like, or need to think about it and have to digest it numerous times.

If i need to fall asleep i will put in ambient music ie. gas-pop ...zzzz...

I'm liking Air at the moment. Moon Safari is a nice chill album.

And bits of Basement Jaxx's The Singles compilation.

With that in mind, could someone offer me some recommendations? That would be cool.

Yeah, I can agree with that. I posted something after listening to the first two tracks on that album. The third one was decent, but the last two were horrible. I've just had a really hard time finding electronic stuff that is consistently good.

That's Imprezu's territory, but he hasn't been here for a while. If you search the archives in this (electronica) forum you'll find that he's recommended a lot of stuff to other people. I'd start there.

If you like air you have to check out their 'premieres symptomes' album.IMO it is a completely stunning collection of songs and is at the top of its genre.

I really couldnt come up with a good list of reccomendations based on two albums, one of which you only like a few songs off of.

Here goes, some stuff would fall into the same category but a bunch of it falls in between both artists.Aslo a bunch of stuff that i have been listening to lately alot, new and old.

--Dntel-Life is full of possibilities
--Superpitcher-Here Comes Love; Today Mix
**You could do no wrong looking for stuff from kompakt. especially with their new mp3 service it is easier than ever to be a fan.A good place to start is the "Total" Series.
--Blue States-Nothing Changes Under the Sun
--Daedelus-Invention
--Peace Orchestra
**Or anything involving Peter Kruder and or Richard Dorfmeister is well worth the money.
--Lackluster-Showcase
--Mr.Projectile-Sinking
**These are my 2 favorite Merck releases, well worth checking out.
--Psychonauts-Songs for Creatures
--Dabrye-One/Three and Itsrmntl
--Norman Feller-Frameless Structure
--L.Pierre-Hypnognia and Touchpool
--V.Snares his newest release on Planet Mu is beyond exceptional.
--Telefon Tel Aviv-Both Albums
--Cex-Role Model
--Matthew Dear-Leave Luck to Heaven

I would highly reccomend checking out Kompakts Mp3 Site. There are some realy nice hidden gems in there that are extremely hard to find and well worth having in your collection.

I'm listening to Chris Clark - Clarence Park for the second time. It sounds pretty good, but I don't know if it's something I'll listen to again. I particularly like the song "Proper Lo-Fi."

Thanks for the recommendations, Imprezu.

I might be hard-pressed to find some of the CDs you recommended, though, as my local record stores don't tend to stock anything obscure. I should probably stick with some of the bigger names in the genre for now.

Well,Most of those albums are available on various legal download sites. If you are open to that.I personally believe that mp3 sites are a necessity for me.I dj quite often and find it hard to stay on top of things without them.Especially if i hear a track and want to use it that night.Otherwise i would have to go to various shops or order it online somewhere.

I really dont trust the p2p servers like kazaa or soulseek or limewire...so on.Mainly becuase they usually have a shitty transfer, and that really comes out when you are playing a track at extreme volumes.

That is basically the only reason i buy mp3's from itunes, bleep, finetunes or anywhere else.

I am sure there is tons of stuff down there that i would love to get my hands on, that i probabbly would not be able to.So I feel your pain in those regards.

I have been listening to Lusine-Serial Hodepodge a few times this morning. This is one that flew under the radar for me.I bought it when it came out, just didn't hit me at that time i guess. It is a prety good album especially if u like nice melodic idm music. Not abrasive, good beats and structure.Overall a nice album.

I'm listening to Lawrence's 2005 full-length The Night Will Last Forever right now. I'm liking it pretty well. I listened to his first self-titled CD a while back, but I don't remember what it sounded like exactly. I'll give it another try soon.
