Anyone here listening to this band? They have a new album coming out April 8 called "More Deeper".

I've been listening to this the past week for my DoA review. It's a fun lil Stoner Rock album, that's for sure... and on that note, wouldn't this belong in metal?

It's "metal-ish", but it's also "punk-ish". I guess it could go either place, although I think more fans of punk would like them, as opposed to metalheads. For comparison, I've been listening quite a bit to Black Cobra, who I would consider more typical stoner metal these days. It's just an opinion, of course.

Hmmm.... I'd say the guitar lines are extremely Stoner Rock-ish; I mean those are some pretty heavy squeals and they use a ton of wah-wah. Tremolo and solos galore... the percussion would never appear in any punk album I've ever heard either.
The band actually reminds me a lot of Earthless.
I'm not tryingt o be a genre-nazi, I just don't think it shares any punk characteristics and is essentially as straight-up (American, rather than the more Psych-oriented Japanese stuff) Stoner Rock as you can get.
According to their MySpace page, they classify themselves as "Psychedelic / Garage / Hardcore". AllMusic says they're garage punk and influenced by The Stooges. So, for the sake of argument, I'll assume we're both somewhat correct.

Oh well, I decided not to review it this week so that I could listen to it for another week. I started to review it but as I listened it didn't feel ready... so I decided to take the easy way out with a fairly straight-up indie CD review. They're seriously the easiest albums to review.
I'm really impressed with Vincent Black Shadow's sound though. Like I said, it reminds me a lot of Earthless but not as cockrock-ish and really garagey. A great sound that sounds familiar but never sounds contrived.
You might be interested in Witch's new album Paralyzed. It's definitely stoner rock.

I generally don't bring up the Stoner Rock I listen to on this forum because I didn't think anyone listened to it... I'd rather listen to most Stoner bands than Sabbath or Zeppe, tbh.

There are a few of us here.

I wouldn't say they're metal. That's pretty retarded. They're labeled as alternative rock and since they sound so multi-genre I'd have to go with that statement.

A. Where did you see them labeled as "alternative rock"? Their press kit never once refers to them as such, so I doubt the band would (because the band/pr people put together promo packets)
B. Have you ever heard Stoner Rock? Have you ever listened to metal? To say the two aren't related shows your absolute ignorance.
C. Stoner Rock generally encompasses a lot of varying sounds. From the sludgy, doom influenced Stoner to the more Eastern leaning, psychedelic end of the spectrum. Stoner Rock is more nailed down by influences that are (for the better bands) rooted deep within their sound and then built upon with the band's own tendencies.
I can understand making a reference to Iggy Pop and a bit of the more Garage-y aspects of the More Deeper, but saying this an "alternative rock" album (which no right-minded Garage group would let themselves be associated nowadays) is just "retarded" (as you say).

So, how would you classify bands like Jucifer or The Goslings? I'm not sure which of our forums would be good for starting a thread on either of these. Indy? Punk? Metal? Alternative? I suppose I could ask the same questions about The Sword, Witch, Torche, etc.

If we're talking how would I classify them thread-wise then: How would the Goslings fit any of those categories? They're noise-pop so they'd go in the avant-garde thread. I don't even like Jucifer, they sound like they're trying too hard to be technical and epic, but I'd say they'd fit Metal or Punk but not Alternative or Indie Rock.
I'd put The Sword in Indie Rock but some might put them in Metal. Witch is generally considered Stoner Metal and I'd agree with that assessment. So, in Metal they go. Torche is also Stoner Rock but are kinda sludgy too (which isn't unusual for Stoner bands.. Earth is a band that can fall into this category occasionally as well). Metal as well.
I wasn't trying to bring back uptheir sound but when he said I was "retarded" for calling them Stoner Rock and then he called them alternative... well, that's just silly.
