This gave me a pretty good idea for a thread. We've got the "Top (Whatever) Songs by Any Artist" thread. How about a "Top Songs in Any Genre" thread? We could make lists of the best Punk, Post-Punk, British Invasion, etc. songs. I think it would be pretty sweet.

We sort of have this already here.

All right List-Mania 2007 continues. Here's a list of my favorite American Punk songs. While it does span nearly 30 years, I think the spirit of punk is captured by each and every song. One caveat-- in order to move things along, I pretty much stuck to what I'd already uploaded to my iTunes, so there might be some glaring ommisions.

My Top 25 American Punk Songs:

1) The Dead Boys, “Sonic Reducer”
2) The Ramones, “Blitzkrieg Bop”
3) The Misfits, “Attitude”
4) The Replacements, “Kids Don’t Follow”
5) The Bags, “We Don’t Need the English”
6) Social Distortion, “Mommy’s Little Monster”
7) Minor Threat, “I Don’t Want to Hear It”
8) X, “We’re Desperate”
9) Black Flag, “Nervous Breakdown”
10) Hüsker Dü, “In a Free Land”
11) The Dils, “Class War”
12) The Avengers, “We Are the One”
13) Circle Jerks, “Live Fast Die Hard”
14) Crime, “Hot Wire My Heart”
15) VKTMs, “100% White Girl”
16) The Deadbeats, “Kill the Hippies”
17) Bad Religion, “We’re Only Gonna to Die”
18) The Descendents, “Suburban Home”
19) Johnny Thunders, “Chinese Rocks”
20) Pagans, “Nowhere To Run”
21) Suicide Commandos, “You Can’t”
22) The Eyes, “TAQN”
23) Adolescents, “L.A. Girl”
24) The Dicks, “Hate the Police”
25) The Exploding Hearts, “Modern Kicks”

I'll be posting other lists over the next few weeks.

I could have sworn I put "Callifornia Uber Alles" on there. I was shocked when I read your post. Yes indeed, top 10 for sure.

No Clash? Surely "Janie Jones" deserves a spot among Punk's best songs.

these are some of my favourites:

Crass, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones (ONLY early stuff, i hate that Sheena Is A Punk Rocker pop punk bullshit), Bastard Squad (the Australian one), The Stranglers, Nirvana, The Hives, Motorhead, A Bridge To Many, Bad Brains, also, I consider alot of the UK Hip-Hop to have ties with punk, so with that in mind: Lethal Bizzle, Dizzee Rascal and The Streets shall be added to my list.

The clown is down...
