I just wanted to mention that both the new NOFX and Propagandhi discs are excellent! The production is super high quality on both, and the songwriting is very engaging. I know a lot of punk fans tend to stop buying albums from long tenured punk bands, and just keep on listening to their first few discs, but rest assured, these discs are worth your cash! The Propagandhi disc comes in a lovely digipack too!

I've been listening to Terror recently, and feel that they are the definitely one of the best current hardcore bands out there! For a genre that is sometimes overly stale, it's amazing to me that they don't mess with the classic hardcore formula, and yet manage to be compelling and highly listenable. I'd love to see these guys in a small club(as long as there are no stupid kids doing the punch the air dance!!!)!

Personally I think Punk deserves it's own seperate thread just like metal or jazz. Reading through this thread, a couple of people thought so too, although I don't think they post here anymore. What do you think?

I think it could encompass proto-punk, punk, post-punk, hardcore, no wave and all of the revivalists. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but just in case, I'd love to read your opinions on the subject.

Sorry guys, it isn't going to work. We had a "meeting" and it just doesn't seem reasonable. The punk thread hadn't even been used since June. There just isn't much activity in those genres that are only variations of the "main" genres.

Oh damn, I didn't realize. We posted at the same time. I've been waiting for that Punk thread to show up. Look I don't know who was involved in the "meeting" but I'm here to tell you this whole rock thread is buried-- when I think of this thread I think of dinosaur rock. It would have never occured to me to look for a punk thread here if Ericg hadn't mentioned it. I can gaurantee that a "All Things Punk" thread would get more hits than Classical and World combined. Does it cost money to add a new category? If it does I totally understand, but otherwise I think you guys are just being genre nazis.

Oh, you’re going to start calling me names are ya? I see.

Eh, just kidding. I was all for it and I do think that once we moved some of the threads over and if people contributed it would be pretty successful. However, the other mods didn’t see it getting a lot of attention. Either way, you can keep fighting for it if you like. I’ll let the other mods know so that they can respond to you here.

For the love of Johnny Rotten, just give it a chance.

I will personally make a request to the Powers That Be to open up a new forum. The Mods can't do it. Now, what exactly, do you want the forum to be called and have in it? Just Punk? Or something including New Wave, Post-Punk or what have you? Remember, this is a request. There's no guarantee that you're going to get it.

Not that it's a big deal, but nobody has actually talked about punk in here the last four days, and it's now at the top of the Rock forum.

No, don’t say “oh nevermind” now. I’ve already brought it up twice and mark is going to see what he can do. He is probably going to be able to do it—but no promises. And it will probably be a combination thread, like “Punk, New Wave” and something or other.

So you will still be happy about it, understood? Red Face

I appreciate it FKA, but Mark was right. It's been at the top of the Rock section for several days and five people have shown up, three of whom are mods. I could talk to myself just fine in this thread. Cool

Hey MJ, what's your favorite punk album of all time?

Dude, you better define what you mean by 'punk' before I can commit to my favorite.

The new category will be "Punk, New Wave, Post-Punk, Pre-Punk, Goth, Power Pop, Punk-Funk, 2-Tone Ska, Brit Pop, Power Pop, Surf, Calypso, Reggaeton, and whatever other genre of music Maximum Jack wants to discuss but doesn't fit into any of the other pre-defined categories". Big Grin

Oh okay, then hands down it's got to be Wire's Pink Flag.
