This thread is all about John Irving: his books, his themes, the movie adaptations of his books, anything.
I'll start. My favorite novel is Garp, followed by Widow.
Garp is so sad, enraging, and hilarious. It is filled with life; the good and the bad. I love that the characters are flawed and ultimately human.
Widow is so dark. There is such a sadness purveyed through the entire novel, particularly the first section. Ruth Cole is otherworldy: beautiful, but cold, distant and full of grief. What a character.
I remember when I first got out of college my friends all were raving about about Irving and this book THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP. I have been hooked since then. I've read all his novels, but am one behind. I own UNTIL I FIND YOU, but haven't found the time to read it. Hopefully, I'll get to it before the end of the year.
My problem is that there are too many books too read and too little time to read them all.
