Those are both sensible jumping off points for DeLillo. I would probably read both before trying to tackle Underworld.

Wow Underworld was a goddamn masterpiece. I love the way that he transports us from the unhidden present where everything is able to be known or found out and gradually as time goes on in the book, and we move further into the past we are transported into the places that the title suggests, the hidden histories that one always suspects are there that seem to determine everything but which no one except those who were there know. Anyone else read it and agree?
