I don't think anything will ever take the place of One Hundred Years of Solitude for me, but I'll continue to read everything GGM writes. He's a genius. I love the atmosphere of decay in most of his books.

I have to say Happy Birthday to the author of my favorite novel. That's just the way it is. One Hundred Years of Solitude hit me in 1973 in a way which is probably impossible to duplicate. When a specific book colors ALL your reading, that means something.

One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book I've never been able to stop thinking about. I can't conceive of even being able to write such a masterpiece, let alone actually doing it.
I also love Love in the Time of Cholera and Of Love and Other Demons. I've always wanted to read The General in His Labyrinth, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I haven't read The Autumn of the Patriarch, but I think I'll have to soon. I just read a short synopsis and it sounds terrific. I love the way GGM's books are infused with the torpor (right word, I hope) and decay of the jungle. I love books that are highly infused with atmosphere.
