One of the best Fantasy authors of all time. Not only is he the creator of Tarzan, but his Mars and Venus book series have captivated generations of fantasy readers. Has anyone else read many of his books?

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back.

It's been a while since I've read them, but I still have a fond space in my heart for all of ERB's books, I particularly like to revisit the early Tarzan's and his westerns. He paints native Americans in a more positive light in his two books about a young boy raised by Apaches than most other authors of his time. Not without his faults as a storyteller and some period racism occasionally in his books, but many of his characters are memorable and noble, and the books are still fun to read after I first read them some 40 years ago. Particular faves are The Return of Tarzan, The Mucker, and The War Chief.

Anyone read Tarzan Forever : The Life of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Creator of Tarzan by John Taliaferro? A critical biography of Burroughs that many of his admirers disliked, but I thought it was interesting and seemed well reasearched. I'm not knowledgeable about all the details of his life to know how his other biographers portrayed him, but TF gave me enough details to whet my interest in the creator of Tarzan's life and his methods of writing,as well as his family life.

ERB I particularly like includes "The Lost World", and any of the John Carter series. He had a cinematic imagination, to use an old cliche. When reading his descriptions of cities or physical endeavours such as when the boys tackle a difficult cliff in The Lost World, I live and breathe the experience as if I was there in actuality

'for my purpose holds to sail beyond the sunset, and the baths of all the western stars, until I die.'
