I've not read much of his work (I don't read much fiction at all) but I liked the stories I read in two collections called Splatterpunk I and II. Both were heavy on the sex and gore but had some compelling stories by Barker, Kathe Koja, Poppy Z. Brite, and others.

Some folks like thier horror, well, horrible. So they can catch the train an' go that way. That way, madness lies. But some like to stick thier heads into the mouth of madness.

Go figure.

I have read a few of his books, Weaveworld being my favorite. I have lent my copy of that one out so many times now the cover is held on by elastics. My second favorite would be the two-parter Imajica. I felt that Imajica had richer characters, but the story of Weaveworld was completely enrapturing for me. It has been years since I read them, but I still have fond feelings towards those two.

The Great and Secret Show was really good when I was younger. I like that Barker's books are probably some of the fastest reading 500+ pages books ever. Barker definately is on a much different level than the other cheesy grocery-store horror writers (Stephen King, Anne Rice, who is possibly the worst writer I can imagine). The kids book Thief of Always was surprisingly good also.

Clive Barker's Books of Blood are sooipooib entertainment! He lost it largely after The Great and Secret Show i would reckon. His imagery fell under the wheels of his philosophical ponderings truck. (Bad metaphor I know)
