That is hilarious! I can do stuff like that with my little bro but my other buddies don't usually get it.

You know how I would love to explore the galaxy, right? Well, there is a video game coming out in two weeks called Mass Effect that is this epic Sci/Fi adventure all over the galaxy. I can't wait!!

So I'm beginning to make a Christmas list, its mainly books and cds and of course, Star Wars Clone Wars (my bro is asking for the 2nd volume). Any recs for movies?

I saw a commercial for it last night. What is it? Some kinda planet rescue-type game? That's what it seemed to be.

I dunno who you're shopping for and what they've got for flicks, but of the DVDs I consider to be MUST HAVES are:
"King Kong" Extended Cut
"Sin City" Director's Cut
"The Ultimate Matrix Collection"
"Ratatouille"
"The Adventures of Indiana Jones"
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" Extended Cut
"The Secret of NIMH" (It's now in widescreen! You aren't one of those "I don't like when they cut off the top and bottom" kinda people are ya?)
'The Tick' Seasons 1 & 2
and, of course "The Star Wars Saga" Wink

For a bit of "last minute shopping":
November 20th
"Live Free or Die Hard"
December 4th
"Superbad"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"
December 18th
"The Simpsons Movie"
"Blade Runner: Ultimate Collector's Edition" (5 versions of the movie in a 5-disc set!)
"Stardust"
"The Evil Dead Ultimate Edition"

That's just off the top o' me head, the "last minute" ones are the ones I'm gonna try to grab when they come out. There are probably more (and older) flicks ya might wanna look into. I read somewhere that there will finally be a Special Edition "Kill Bill" released this Holiday Season in the form of a 4-disc set with the 2 films combined into 1! Eeker However, I was unable to find an exact date, so it might be a horrible joke on fans. Frowner

I already own both Kill Bill films and although it makes me angry that now they would release a special edition of both films, yeah, I would get it. I pretty much love everything Quentin Tarantino has written and directed himself—but that’s already pretty obvious huh?

Great rec but how are there 5 different versions? I can understand a director's cut (like the superior Alien cut) but 5!?!? I think I'll get that for my dad if its in the price range.

The Secret of NIMH was one of my favorite movies when I was little. Now I'm a big Don Bluth fan.

speaking of Tarintino, Kill Bill Volumes I and II was on IFC the other night after a very long week of tests. So I watched both all the way through. It was great. The films have a lot more connections and meaning than I realized. Its more than just an homage to all those relatively unknown kung fu movies that Tarintino is in love with. Also IFC has been doing this "Real" Grindhouse series that looks kinda good. Just haven't been able to watch it.

Yeah, I don’t know what Ishy is talking about when he knocks those films down. Tarantino truly knows how to put together amazing films. Everything from the colors, music and the shots that he chooses are brilliant. And in both those films there are so many metaphors, connections and like you said, meaning. Every single one of his scenes is filled with so much substance that it’s remarkable. He is by far, my favorite living writer/director and he is a gem of filmmaker—we are very lucky to have him making films for us.

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN IF I INCLUDED QUENTIN TARANTINO IN THE LIST! Big Grin This is a thread on the 'STAR WARS SAGA', not the bleedin' thread called 'TARANTINO IS THE GREATEST'! Buuuuut, since ya wanna talk Q.T....

I've enjoyed most of his flicks, with the exception of one: "Reservoir Dogs". It was recommended by a good friend of mine, so I rented it, actually expecting to enjoy myself. However, when they started talkin' 'bout jews ( I had actually never heard about them being cheap before this movie. I know, EVERYONE knows that stereotype, but I didn't, okay?) and then Steve Buscemi seperated the guys from fighting with, "You're acting like a couplea n*ggers!" My jaw dropped! I couldn't get over how racist this movie was! I still can't! It even bothers me when Q.T. says it when he's talkin' to Samuel L. in "Pulp Fiction", but I let that slide because a black dude was present and he apparently didn't have a problem with it. So, I kinda figure he's the "cool white friend" who can say it without getting popped in the mouth (sometimes it's cool even if they don't say it "right"). In "Reservoir Dogs", however, that couldn't be taken for anything BUT a racist statement and it won't let me enjoy the film. I've been a victim of racism, from 2 sides of the color barrier: black and white, and I can't stand it. I'm half black/half white and I've actually been hated because I'm mixed. Some don't like the thought of an interracial couple, and I am the result of one. It's such a stupid reason to hate.

I went back to that friend, and asked him why he didn't warn me. He said he'd never noticed it. HE NEVER NOTICED IT!

That friggin' video was hilarious! I completely lost it when he shot ol' dude on the couch and you got that trademark scream! I agree with one of the comments at the bottom, they shoulda stuck Sam Jack's voice in there, it woulda made it even better. Especially when you added the static at the beginning and end of each line! I guess you sure showed me! Big Grin

As far as my new sig., I'm in the middle of watching all 10 Seasons of 'The Simpsons', all in a row* for the first time since I've started buying them on DVD, and last night I came upon "Lisa's Rival". This episode has the most hilarious B story with Homer and his pile of sugar! Marge is trying to get him to get rid of the sugar when he comes back with this line. Of course, I added "all of" and typed "Monkey_Boy" instead of "Homer Simpson", but I'm sure you've already figured that out. Wink

*Well, not completely in a row, but inbetween movies and junk. It's interesting watchin' 'em like this because you start to notice things like:

The Simpson's address being very different in the first few seasons (It was 92 Evergreen Terrace one episode, 742 in another and 732 in yet another!)

In one season Homer remarks that he hates "that icky soup skin", but in another season he steals it from Bart! This is fun on a bun! Big Grin

well, duh, if we ever figure out where springfield is then they would be stalked like crazy.

i know a lot of different writers and directors have worked on the simpsons so its probably hard to have continuity. George Lucas is one dude and its pretty much from his mind, besides the concept art- I wonder how much that came from his mind

and check out bam fragile, when you get the chance.

I wasn't saying it was stupid or whatever. It was just interestin' to find that out, is all. The show is actually pretty good with its continuity. I just never really noticed the little things like that, until now. I have the first 17 FULL seasons on tapes, but they aren't in order. I'd record the shows as they came on, until the "recording tapes" were full. Then, I'd sit down, for an entire day, and re-record each episode onto my "episode tapes" for commercial-free, uninterupted laughs. Sometimes (well, pretty much everytime) the tapes would get mixed up, so I don't actually have the shows in their proper order. I also didn't start recording them unti '96, so I had to get all of the previous seasons from syndication. Which sucked because they cut all sorts of jokes out in the syndicated shows!

That was funny than a mug! His "Howard the Duck" inspiration was good too! Alotta people hate that movie, but I liked it, dag-nab-it! At least I did as a child. I haven't seen it through a "grown ups eyes", yet. Is this the actual "George Lucas in Love" I've heard all about, but have never seen... or is this a fan version... or is it BOTH?

Have you checked out The 10 Greatest Sounds from "Star Wars"? I gotta say, I LOVE the sound of the lightsabers. Whenever they come out, I turn up the volume! Jango Fett's seismic charges, in "Attack of the Clones", is another one I look forward to. The way all sound goes silent and then BOOM! and you have that cool sound as the shockwave blasts its way through the asteroids... good gravy, that's sweeeeeeeet! Big Grin

Yes, it was. Here is a wiki entry. The film was an insider sort of thing made at the prestigious (and quite recently quite endowed thanks to Lucas's pocketbook) USC film school by some grad students and joe nussbaum. It got passed along inside hollywood and it has a lot of inside jokes. but thanks to youtube, the yeoman gets to enjoy the experience. speaking of inside hollywood, what do you, my movie crazed friend, think of the writer's strike?

Ben Burtt is a genius. That was a really great compilation. The short included the famous Wilhelm Scream, which Burtt loves to death.

I really like the seismic charges in attack of the clones. I remembered thinking those were really cool the first time i saw it.

and just to make a double, here is some kevin smith madness

i know this is OT, but i can't help but chime in.
i don't think that the Simpsons are ever going to reveal where they are from, if they are from anywhere. I must add though there is a town in Kentucky named Simpsonville and the next town over is...Shelbyville! Coincidence?

The more, the merrier. Its just me and monkey in here with the occasional pop ups of fragile but he doesn't share our obsessive love of star wars lore.

I like that springfield is not in one specific place in America.

I love star wars quite a bit, it is not an obsessive love though, i own all the dvds and you guys turned me on to wookiepedia, which i have wasted hours on ( i have a boring job Smiler), i have enjoyed reading all these posts, but i'm not sure if i have much to add.

i have been playing Knights of the Old Republic 2 for xbox lately, and its quite good. I'll pop in from time to time. Keep it up!

its flattering (oh thy ego, oh thy ego) to know that someone reads our little discussions. please pop up any time Smiler

and trust me, with the exception of the occasional video i find, i don't add much either so please add anything you desire.

KOTOR 2 is really good. Except the ending absolutley sucks and I'm glad Obsidian Entertainment did such a good job with a really really really great Bioware game. They made a lot of improvements.

I'm wondering if you are excited about mass effect, an rpg molded from the similar clay of KOTOR. except there are no lightsabers Frowner

I'm soooooo sick of this strike garbage! Why can't folks do right by each other without puttin' up a fight? I'm not real sure who's in the right or who's in the wrong, so I'm not sure who to be mad at. All I know is there are a few movies that are sufferin' at this very moment because of this strike. Whether it's because the studios rushed the films into production to beat the strike or they've been delayed because of it, it's gonna take its toll at the box office. I'm already pissed about "Justice League". They rushed it to beat the strike, so Christian Bale won't be able to play the part he does so well!

Have you checked out the Scenes that should have the Wilhelm Scream? I couldn't stop laughing!

Oh yeah, I've seen "Clerks". It was pretty darn funny and the nerdy "Star Wars" conversations were great, but why did it have to be in black-n-white? I own a hi-def television for brilliant, beautiful color, DAG-NAB-IT! The part that had me rollin' the most? "My girlfriend's sucked 37 d*cks!" "In a row?" Big Grin

Of course not! Ya know, there are over a hundred cities named Springfield in America? That's at least 2 per state! It's a joke, and a gosh-darn fine one at that! Razzer I had this very discussion with a few people in one of The Simpsons threads in the television section. There was one dude that actually claimed it was Kentucky, but that was because of the "Behind the Simpsons" episode, which was a joke in and of itself.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I ain't that geeky! I don't go around dressing up like the characters at the premieres or anything. My knowledge has come from those that knew waaaay more than me (i.e. the ones who dressed up), the movies, and a few books I've read, but that's about it. I had just stumbled on Wookiepedia the very day I posted the link!

If ya feel the NEED to say sumpthin' don't be afraid to type it! Even if it's off topic. This has become a thread of "Star Wars" fans who don't really HAVE to talk about "Star Wars" all the time, but we try to sprinkle little references here & there. Wink

Oh, yes it is. Cool Of course, my favorite part comes right when Anakin says, "You underestimate my power." I actually say, "Don't try it." with Obi-Wan EVERYTIME, 'cuz that ends up being a very big mistake for Ani, indeed. "You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destoy the Sith, not join them!"
