Funny 'bout your mom and the teddy bears/ewoks. My mom NEVER got it! She was extremely confused from the start, but she liked the little she understood. She's a MAJOR Christian and won't go near anything that even looks demonic. So it was impossible to show her "Episode I" because she'd seen previews with Darth Maul in 'em and that was just "too demonic" for her! It wasn't until "Episode III" came to DVD that she really wanted to see any of the prequels because she (and pretty much the rest of the world) wanted to see HOW Anakin became Darth Vader. When I bought "Revenge of the Sith", Wal-Mart had a "bonus disc" that ended up being made for children, but was very useful in catching my mother up on what she'd missed in the previous episodes. This actually got her interested in seeing the others because she saw Darth Maul get chopped in half and it made her happy that the evil character was actually defeated by the end of the movie. I have yet to get her over here to watch 'em. She doesn't like to get out much and I live 2 cities away. I would go to her house, but she has a small 20" t.v. and it doesn't even have S-Video compatibility! YOU CAN'T WATCH "STAR WARS" ON SUCH A SMALL SCREEN AND IN SUCH DULL COLOR!

By the by, I was reading some stuff on the world-wide-web about "Star Wars", and I made a startling discovery... It will soon be released to Blu-Ray with EVEN MORE "making of's" and documentaries! It was supposed to come out this year (for the 30th Anniversary of the first, duh!), but I guess they're still cramming crap into it! You also know that it'll finally be in DTS! Yet another reason I GOTTA get my hands on a PS3, or failing that, a Blu-Ray player! They are gettin' cheaper. Hopefully, I can grab one with my income tax refund next year!

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Funny, my mom is a very christian person too! She hated demonic stuff and wouldn't let us watch care bears and captain planet b/c they had unexplained powers that only God can have. However, I think she gave up on me when it came to star wars. Wink

So you're going with blu-ray, eh? you might want to wait to make sure blu-ray wins over the lesser named HD-DVD. or just get the PS3. some good games are coming out soon but I'm quite happy with my xbox 360.

nice to see you joined the crowd fragile/freddy crougar.

Haha, yeah. But only for today…I am too cool to conform. Cool

About the blue-ray/HD-DVD talk. I think that eventually we will be forced to get something that will play both of them. I am guessing that this will be because not all movies will be sent to HD and Blue Ray. I guess the best way to go would be to buy the PS3 (because you get the play all of the great games) and a HD-DVD player. It stinks though because some of us have tons and tons of DVDs and now we will have to re-buy them in a better format. But I guess that’s the price you pay (literally and figuratively) for living in the technology age.

Me, too! We also couldn't watch 'The Smurfs' or "The Wizard of Oz" because of the "good witches & good wizards". Funny thing about it was I didn't wanna watch that crap anyway! I mean, I liked The "Wizard of Oz" okay, but it's not like I NEEDED it in my life. It's good to know I wasn't the only one forced to suffer without these "fine programs". Wink

Oh, I've been on the Blu-Ray bandwagon waaaaay before the PS3 was launched. It has more disc space and better quality picture than HD-DVD. Sure, it's not 100x better or anything like that, but it's still better. I don't understand the angry arguments happening between people over the 2 formats. Since when is better NOT better? Over at Rotten Tomatoes there is a huge one about the 2, and the pro-HD folk are making some REALLY STUPID points, but I have a few to counter 'em Wink.

Point #1. Somebody said something to the effect of, "Not many people even own HD televisions so HD-DVD would be a better choice". Um, I remember, in the late 90's, I saw an info-mercial for DVD players. I went into work the next day just running my mouth about "these movies on CDs". A fellow employee said, "Well, if you got one of these players, where would you buy the movies? Sounds pretty stupid to me." Well, here it is, not even 10 years later and the suckers are EVERYWHERE! I actually have friends who DON'T EVEN OWN A VCR! My point is: Sure, not everyone owns a Hi-Def T.V. yet, but within the next 10 years, the majority of the world will own one! They even have Hi-Def channels on cable now. It won't be too long. My friends and I each have one, and we ain't rich in any sense of the word!

Point #2. There was also a point made about porn going to HD. This is big news for some because this is what decided the war between Beta and VHS. Sounds crazy, I know, but my own friends hold up this very argument, saying HD will more-than-likely win out over Blu. However, a Pro-Blu made a very persuasive retort saying that the porn industry has been failing due to the internet. It's being downloaded more than it's being bought in shops. (Less embarrassment, I suppose.) So, there is no way porn will be a deciding factor in this war.

Point #3. If you really think about it, space is always maximized at some point. So why not back the format that boasts the better picture and the most space?

Point #4. "Star Wars" is being released on Blu-Ray! It should be common knowledge that when it comes to technology, Lucas backs the BEST, and he's backing Blu-Ray. Sony doesn't "own" him. Kinda makes ya think...

I bring up the fact that Sony doesn't own George Lucas because the entire argument over at R.T. is over Sam Raimi's glowing admiration for Blu-Ray. Alot of the Blu-haters attribute this to the fact that he is a Sony employee because of their involvement with the "Spider-Man" films. With Lucas being an independent filmmaker, it's definetly not Sony tugging the strings in his case. But hey, that's just how I see it really. If HD does end up winning, I'll at least have a few of my favorite movies (such as "The 5th Element", "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones", etc.) in THE BEST format available before the weaker version (somehow) won. It's not like these suckers sre like VHS tapes. They won't deteriorate over time, and will look just as good 20 years from now as they do today Smiler! I'd just have to make sure my Blu-Ray player doesn't crap out on me!

Not really. I wouldn't need EVERY movie in Hi-Def. I mean, honestly, would "The Terminal" or "Romeo & Juliet" or any other such kinda low key love/romance flick NEED to be in HD? I don't think so. At least not in MY DVD library. I'm goin' for action and sci-fi flicks in Hi-Def. Those are the most colorful and usually have effects shots that would benefit being seen in HD. Big Grin

I should add, the hybrid players that'll play both versions are as cheaply made as the VCR/DVD combos they make now. Best to either buy one of each or stick with a single format.

When is it going to stop? I tend to agree with monkey here. I don't think I would buy every movie all over again. But then again, all of the movies I own are my favorites.... Perhaps, though, the quality of the blu ray will spoil me and I will have to transfer everything over.

I figure that eventually movies and music will be available in a very high quality digital format. Watch movies with a USB flash drive or some other fancy device. And we already listen to plenty of digital music. There will always be a slight difference but the gap is growing smaller. I'm just thinking of

don't worry monkey, i'm a blu ray man all the way now.

Big Grin! Unhealthy snacks? I'll have you know that Peanut M&M's, Twizzlers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and the like, are apart of a balanced diet!

I get together with a few friends of mine once a year for our Annual Star Wars Marathon! We watch all 6, plus the 2 volumes of 'The Clone Wars' 'toons between "Episode II" & "Episode III". We start as early as possible, somewhere around 8am or 9am, and don't get through until about 1am or 2am. (That includes bathroom breaks and a lunch and dinner break. We eat milk and donuts for breakfast while we watch "Episode I".) This year we did it at the end of September, but started late, so we didn't finish "Return of the Jedi" until 3am! Really, only me and a single friend are the only ones to last the ENTIRE saga. Others come and go between episodes, but it seems that there aren't many who can handle all of that amazing "Star Wars" action for an entire day! I really recommend that ya try it! If you can pull it off, it's extremely rewarding because you're more-than-likely going to notice little things about each episode you've never noticed before! Little things in the story, new theories popping up... It's alotta fun! Big Grin

sorry for my absences mr. monkey. been pretty busy but next week is free!!!!!

I just finished Next by Michael Crichton and you'll be flattered to know that you are a prominent character in the novel. There is this half boy half monkey character and they call him monkeyboy!! He is awesome too! He bites a guys ear off and throw his own poo at some bullies. The book kinda sucked though, wouldn't recommend it.

Saw this on digg.com (don't go there; you'll either make fun of the tech lifestyle that is prominent or become addicted, like me) and it actually is star wars related this time.

I'll post some more stuff later after my math test.

Ahhhh, throwin' poo... I remember when KinKaid used ta throw his poo. Well, he didn't really throw it, he would flick it. At least he never ATE IT! He tasted it once and tripped out because it was awful, so it makes me wonder why apes eat it if they're supposed to be more "advanced" than a small monkey. Oh, how I miss him climbing around on my roll bar on The Truck. Those were the days... Cool Now? My monkey was killed by animal control because they didn't believe he was born here in Missouri and The Truck is currently stuck in my driveway in need of a new engine. I'll get it back on the road... at some point in the future. You can read about how I got 'em during the BEST YEAR of my life over here. Just scroll down 'till you see my name. (It upsets my wife whenever I refer to '96 as the best year of my life because she wasn't around then, but it really WAS the best year of my life!)

I made it my desktop too. I just got leopard so the star in star wars reflects off of my dock. I thought it was pretty cool. But you're probably unaware of the coolness of my new OS. It's OK! I like my mac and I like to talk about my mac.

Do you need a permit to own a monkey? How does that work? And why the name KinKaid? A monkey really is a good pet to have, we should have started doing this a while ago. Though, I keep on thinking of Being John Malkovich and Cameron Diaz stuck in a cage.

It sounds like you spent that money well. Though I don't think I would buy clothes, I'm not much of a clothes guy. Just jeans and a t shirt with a jacket (its freezing in Athens. in the south we're used to heat and humidity).

just say to your wife, the best moment of your life was when you met her.

a minute and a year are two very different quantities and so you can definitely categorize them separately. Wink

In Missouri you only need a permit to sell 'em or to own an ape. My mom owned a pet store for a few years and had gotten a permit to sell exotic animals. She sold EVERYTHING! We once had a kangaroo and a tiger cub for sale in the store! She made quite a few friends in the monkey community, so I was able to go straight to a breeder to pick him up for only $2,700. (That's half price!) Some people think that taking a baby monkey from its mother at 3 days old is cruel, but in captivity, monkeys don't take care of their young. They just toss 'em to the side. I first heard the name Kincaid in the movie "Lightning Jack", an Australian cowboy flick. Cracks me up somethin' fierce! Anyway, at the end of the movie, just as Paul Hogan and a mute Cuba Gooding Jr. attempt to hold up a bank, the Kincaid Gang beat 'em to the punch. I just loved that name! I decided to spell it with 2 capital K's because it looked cooler that way. Wink

quote:

Me, either! That was actually the first and last time I bought clothes! All of the clothes I have now have been given to me over the years or my wife bought 'em. I only bought clothes that year because I was ballin' and wanted to look the part! I was wearin' the latest styles, had a convertible truck with a sound system so loud, folks would run outside to take a look, and I took my monkey everywhere. He'd sit in my lap while I was driving and whenever I stopped, he'd climb up onto the rollbar and chill until the light turned green. I was also gettin' phone numbers left and right. When those honey-dips saw me, they couldn't resist. I HAD to look good for the ladies. Cool Besides, it was fantastic to be able to walk into a store and tell the salesclerk, "I want 2 of every kinda shirt and pair of pants you have." You shoulda seen his face! It was also tight to say, "Make it 2." everytime he suggested something. Ahhhhhh, the life of a baller. That's the life for me! Big Grin

quote:
just say to your wife, the best moment of your life was when you met her.
Oh, I tell her she IS the best thing that happened to me! She just doesn't understand that '96 is my best year because that was the year I was "rich and famous". Sure, I wasn't "round the world" famous, but EVERYONE in Lee's Summit knew of me, The Truck, and KinKaid. Of course, nobody really knew my name (I'm kinda private that way), so I was just called "Monkey Boy" by most of the people in town. Still, in 1996, if you asked someone in Lee's Summit if they knew of a dreadlocked guy with a convertible truck, it woulda been hard to find someone that didn't exclaim, "That's Monkey Boy!" Big Grin

Interesting sidenote:
KinKaid was originally going to be an English Bulldog, but the breeder wouldn't let me have the one I wanted because she wanted to put it in dog shows. That's when my mom suggested I get a monkey. At first, I didn't want one, I wanted an English Bulldog, dag-nab-it! However, a few days later, my mom "babysat" a Rhesus Macaque & a baby baboon (ugly little bugger, huh? They stink too!). This wasn't a coincedence, she wanted me to see how wonderful of a pet they'd make. I'll tell ya, I just fell in love with these little guys! I grabbed KinKaid a few days later. Then, I got a baby Spider Monkey, but MAN, those guys are creepy! They have no thumbs, a prehensile tail and wirey (NOT SOFT) hair. Whenever you tried to put her down, she'd wrap her tail around your arm and screeched up a storm! I sold her a week later. She was just too loud & creepy for me. My mom used to own a Japanese Snow Macaque named Spencer, but when she left him with a couple to babysit when she went on vacation, the jerks moved away with him! Broke my mother's heart something fierce. Frowner
