Are you telling me YOU DIDN'T LIKE "300" ! Good gravy, man, I thought that movie flippin' rocked ! Our first, real disagreement . I guess it had to happen sometime. I mean, I was shocked when I found out my boy actually enjoyed "Bad Boys 2" because our tastes are so similar, but that certainly convinced me I couldn't take his word on a "great" movie anymore! Looks like you'll probably think the same thing about me now, huh? Interestingly enough, FragileKidA didn't like it, either, BUT Ishmaels Coffin did! Or, were you actually talking about the "movie" "1776"? Because that movie seemed like it was gonna rock too! Enjoy your marathon!

Yeah I thought 300 was pretty weak as an overall film but that’s just me. The ape-child and I have already debated that movie many times but I respect why he likes it and I think he respects why I don’t like it. Back to this thread, after you see the first episode you mainly remember that it stunk—but was necessary—and that it had arguably the worst character in all of Star Wars history. But you forget that they did an awesome job of casting the main characters in that film—except maybe the child Anakin—but it was awesome to have Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor as the Jedis in that film, those were two very “cool” actors to play them.

yeah i'm with you. while it had stylistic strengths i despised it. i'm a history buff, so the movie's hyperbole bothered me. the overall glorification of spartan (they raped babies) society also bothered me. quote: you forget that they did an awesome job of casting the main characters in that film—except maybe the child Anakin—but it was awesome to have Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor as the Jedis in that film, those were two very “cool” actors to play them.
good point, ewan mcgregor was an outstanding casting choice and he probably is the reason i love obi wan kenobi so much. in episode III he is basically a younger alec guiness. and you can't go wrong with liam nesson.

You shoulda known that it wouldn't have been accurate because very few "based-on-a-true-story" movies are, but they did stay true to the @ss kicking aspect, so I liked that. I really was ONLY in it for the battles, but I liked the whole movie, too. In fact, it's my brothers favorite movie of all time! At least I'm not that deluded! quote: the overall glorification of spartan (they raped babies) society also bothered me.
Raped babies? Don't ya mean killed 'em? Or are you talking when they went to war and this is what they did to the enemies babies? Is it even possible to rape a baby? quote: Originally posted by FraggleRockA of the Moderatin' Bunch: after you see the first episode you mainly remember that it stunk—but was necessary—and that it had arguably the worst character in all of Star Wars history.
No way! My love for "Episode I" is watching the rise of Palpatine! Just being able to see this true Supervillian working both sides of a war so he can gain more power is a wonder in itself. (All hail, Emporer Palpatine!) Plus, you had that pod race and a proper Jedi lightsaber duel with one of the most acrobatic Sith you've ever seen! Jar Jar Binks never bothered me and I just can't understand why people hate him so much. At least he didn't look like crap for being the very first CG character that could actually stand next to real people and NOT look like a CG character! quote: But you forget that they did an awesome job of casting the main characters in that film—except maybe the child Anakin—but it was awesome to have Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor as the Jedis in that film, those were two very “cool” actors to play them.
Yeah, that Jake Lloyd was the worst choice ever, but just imagine if Lucas woulda picked Leo DeCrapio to play Anakin in the sequels! I don't think I woulda even went to see 'em! Sorry, but I have YET to see a Leo film that I've enjoyed. I don't know what it is about that dude, but I just can't stand him onscreen!

Ha, I love how this thread goes off topic and it’s usually the monkey’s fault. Just kidding! You know, I used to feel similarly towards Leonardo DiCaprio and his acting career. I honestly could not stand him on-screen, especially in Titanic. I despise that movie with a passion and forget all of the special effects and whatnot—it was poorly acted, decently directed and terribly miscast. Such a bad movie—for me at least—that Oscar should have gone to the best film of that year: As Good as It Gets, and Boogie Nights should have been nominated for Best Picture in place of Titanic. But I digress, I really liked DiCaprio in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. I think that he and Johnny Depp did spectacular acting jobs on that film. I couldn’t really stand DiCaprio as an actor ever since then but last year’s The Departed really impressed me. He was arguably the one that acted the best on that film and helped make that movie dang good. Maybe it’s been working with Martin Scorsese for so many films now but man, he was good on that one.

The first DiCaprio film that really sold me on him as an actor was Catch Me If You Can. He was very awesome in last year's The Departed though. I think that was the first DiCaprio role where I really thought of him as an adult. He's definitely taken Robert DeNiro's sport as Martin Scorsese's favorite star, too. They're supposedly working on another Dennis Lehane ( Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone) adaptation together.

i'm the same way as you fragile. i despise titanic (especially as a star wars fan; it pains me that titanic is the highest grossing film of all time) and usually like to think of Leo as a pussy but recently his acting has been making me forget his previous roles. the departed had a lot of fine acting but leo really did great. Damon also did a good job. Its hard to play a villain. everyone did a good job. maybe it is Scorsese monkey i was thinking about a few things you might like that i like a lot. i have a little brother around the age of 11 (he also shares our love for star wars; i taught him at a young age) and he loves this show called Avatar. I watched it one time and I got hooked. Despite its intended audience, I love the show. they're actually making it into a movie with M. Night Shyamalan attached to it. i'll try and find you a link to see if you like it. also, i use this web site to check out movies. Its not the same as watching it on a nice big screen but it has all my family guy and south park shows down near the bottom. When I'm in front of a computer, its very nice. I also have been able to watch a lot of 70s and 80s movies that I was not around for.

Well, my brother and sister were diagnosed with A.D.D., so chances are good that I've got it too! quote: I honestly could not stand him on-screen, especially in Titanic. I agree with all of this 100%! Don't get me started on the extremely OVERRATED "Titanic". It was as overrated as the ship itself. I mean, the sucker sunk on it's maiden voyage! The greatest part of the movie is when the ship sinks. This is for 2 reasons: 1. The movie's almost over. And 2. It looks cool, and the falling guy hitting the ship's propellor was great! We better be careful, or else Tabuno will be in here to "straighten us out" on how fantastic this dreck was! I think my main problem with L.D., is I've never even been remotely curious about seeing any of his movies, and, of the few I've seen, I thought they were stupid as all get out. Like, "Romeo+Juliet", "The Man in the Iron Mask", & "Titanic". I haveta admit, I was a tad excited to see "Blood Diamond" until he appeared in the trailer, then my interest disappeared. Sorry, ericg75, I love that you've joined the discussion, BUT, to paraphrase Jules of "Pulp Fiction": "A sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie. I'll never know 'cause [I'd never eat one]!" I feel the same about Leo. Maybe if he's ever in a movie with Bruce Willis (ahhh, Bruce Willis... Huh? A- hem!) I'll be able to see if he really is any good. Then I'll go back and check out some of his more recent flicks to see if he's as good as when he's standing next to The Man! (Ahhhh, Bruce Willis...) quote: i have a little brother around the age of 11 (he also shares our love for star wars; i taught him at a young age)
Yes, get 'em while they're young! They don't even know how good they have it, being able to see the whole story from begininng to end! (Well, nearly the whole story. Hopefully, one o' Lucas' kids will make the final 3 before I die!) I can only imagine being able to watch the movies as the story unfolds, with actual surprises. I mean, think about it: With "Episode I", you would have no real clue as to who this Darth Sidious is or what he ends up accomplishing, or how important Obi-Wan was to the story, or what lies in store for lil' Anakin, or who would live or die! Can you imagine actually being surprised when Palpatine revealed himself as a Sith Lord?! These kids have no idea how great they have it! Youth is wasted on the young. Oh, I'm sorry, Fry, you were actually typing about something else? quote: ...and he loves this show called Avatar.
I've heard of it. Does it come on Cartoon Network? I do enjoy the occasional anime 'toon. My boy got me hooked on 'Fullmetal Alchemist' and 'Vampire Hunter D'. I LOVE that kinda animation! I also love the way Joe Madureira mixed an american drawing style into the comics characters he draws. quote: Despite its intended audience, I love the show. they're actually making it into a movie with M. Night Shyamalan attached to it.
I dunno. Alotta folks are saying he's lost it. I've only enjoyed "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable". "Signs" wasn't all that great, mostly because of the aliens and their ridiculous weakness. I heard the ending to "The Village" before I had a chance to see it, and it might've even worked for me if I saw the film BEFORE I knew how it ended. It's just that my having learned the ending, makes me not wanna see it now. And "Lady in the Water" looked like it might be good (in that weird kinda way), but I've heard so many terrible things about it that I'm not so sure I wanna devote a few hours of my life to find out. I'd love for M. Night to make a comeback though! Thanks for the link, Fry-man! I actually have a 21" LCD computer screen, so I tend to watch all sorts of shows on my computer! Not movies, though. That's why I have a 52" widescreen hi-def television in the Den!

What do ya mean, Frag? You don't like the 'toons? They're extremely important to the story! Well, not extremely important, but they're at least kinda important to real fans.

I see how it is Monkey, I see… Nah, but yeah I don’t like the cartoons. I always saw them as an excuse just to make more Star Wars stuff and I found them to be pretty dumb. But hey, if you like them that’s great—I don’t care.

Well, of course it was an exscuse to make more "Star Wars" stuff! At least it continued the story and it wasn't like that crappy Ewoks cartoon or the live action movie they came out with. It shows you the Clone War! It bridges the 3 year gap between the episodes! In the first volume, you get to see the different battles on the different planets and exactly how skilled these Clone Troopers (and their Jedi Generals) were! At the same time, you also see how Anakin was tempted by the Dark Side during the war, and General Grievous in his full glory! In the second volume, we get to see how a Padawan becomes a Jedi and how Palpatine was "kidnapped". Not to mention, you get the reason as to why Grievous has the cough he does in "Episode III" and why Mace refers to him as a coward. This is what I meant when I typed "kinda important to real fans". We just love seeing this stuff on screen , even if we don't have to ! Of course, we aren't thrilled he did it with "traditional animation". (I mean, he founded Pixar, dag-nab-it!) But, in the end, I'm just glad he did it. Why is it "Star Trek" gets a hundred different movies and t.v. shows? Doesn't "Star Wars" deserve to have other branches of entertainment? Besides, "Star Wars" does have a much more expanded universe, with more diverse alien species, than "Star Blech" does.

I, uhh, liked those when i was little. after watching the original movies for the first time (and trust me i still remember where and when: on a small 13 inch tv in the playroom while my mom and dad were gone for the weekend with my annoying aunt looking after us in the summer of first grade) i needed more star wars stuff and that was all that was out there. besides i didn't understand quality control then. it was star wars and anything star wars was awesome. i'm not sure you should be giving hulk like angry ALL CAP threats to your stupid ventricle. You might make it mad. so where and when was your first time? hope you feel better.

I did too, how do you think I remember 'em ? But, like ya said, we were young and wanted ALL things "Star Wars"! Have you watched 'em lately? Obviously made for cash and NOT for a more expanded universe. quote: i'm not sure you should be giving hulk like angry ALL CAP threats to your stupid ventricle. You might make it mad.
What are they gonna do, hurt me? Hahahahahah--OW! quote: so where and when was your first time?
Well, I was gestating in my mother's womb as she watched "Star Wars" when it first came out in theaters in 1977! As for actually seeing them with my own eyes, I saw "Return of the Jedi" first, at around 8 or 9 years old. And I read the novelization of 'A New Hope' when I was in 5th grade. So when I finally did see the movie in my teens, I was confused why Jabba wasn't in it! I don't think I actually got to see ALL of 'em in a row (Episodes 4-6) until I was 14, maybe 15. Yeah, my mom wasn't big on video rentals or going to the movies unless we had a "free coupon". quote: hope you feel better.
Thanks.
