This still coulda worked if they made the Quag-man Obi-Wan. What with his thang for Lois and all. Then, they coulda made the gay hippie dude C-3PO! They really shoulda called me. I coulda made the casting make a bit more sense and still kept most of the jokes. If Peter were Vader, he coulda still made the "messin' his pants" joke stewie did. And it woulda probably been funnier!

as for the comedy, george lucas has always felt comedy was an important part of drama and lots of star wars is pretty funny. you could even go on to say that threepio is a comic relief.
Oh, yes, Threepio is delightfully funny, but everyone seems to get their moment of hilarity at one point or another. Whether it's when Leia starts taking charge of her own rescue, or Chewbacca complaining of the smell of the garbage chute, or Han getting to Luke by expressing his interest in Leia, or the "look on Vader's face" when he's knocked outta the trench, or when Yoda comes out to test Luke's patience, or the way Lando suddenly realizes he's back-talking Darth Vader(Eeker!), or the look on Admiral Piett's face when the Millenium Falcon jumps into lightspeed, or-- well, I'm sure you get the point! Those scenes are only out of the "first 2 movies", I could go through every moment in every movie and point out the comedy! However, I can honestly say, Episodes IV-VI are the funniest to me.

i'm going to start looking through the other star wars threads too, good idea.

My turn, huh? Alrighty then, let's see... OH! Who's your favorite or most interesting MAIN character out of each trilogy or the whole saga? For me, Senator/Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine. You don't get much of him in the last 3, but you see how truly evil & diabolical he is in Episodes 1-3! He was the one I really wanted to learn more about when the prequels began. From the original trilogy it would be Boba Fett. He just oozed cool and according to the comics, all of those bounty hunters that were on the Super Star Destroyer with him, actually worked for him! I was sad to see him die in "Return of the Jedi", but I later read that his armor protected him from the stomach acids of the Sarlacc Pit and he managed to climb out! This was before Lucas decided to add the (stupid) beak, so it woulda been possible for him to do this. However, with the change, I don't see him climbing back out. Maybe he coulda blasted through the friggin' beak once he adjusted his jetpack! It wasn't really damaged, Han just accidentily turned it on.

Speaking of Han, I've been watching that 'Family Guy' "Star Wars" show and they made a crack on Lucas that didn't make sense if you knew what the deal was. When they talk about the Millenium Falcon making the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs, someone (I suddenly can't remember who said it) mentioned that a parsec is a measurement of distance, not time. Uh, DUH! When he says that his ship can make a run in a certain distance he's actually bragging on how smart his ship's navi-computer is! The Millenium Falcon will find the shortest distance possible. So, it's not really a fast ship, just a smart one! Big Grin

As to your question on the whereabouts of the Ish-man: Ishmael's back in the land down under! He hasn't been home in a year, so he's not spending much time indoors while he's there. He'll be returning to China within a month and then he'll be back to Metacritic.

I saw that “Family Guy” episode of the parody of the first Star Wars film. I thought it was pretty funny, but like a lot of the “Family Guy” episodes, there were so many parts that I found to be utterly pointless and that I thought, “What the?”

I loved Cleveland as R2 though, that was really funny and the afro they added was really smart. But why the heck was that old pervert guy Obi-Wan? That didn’t fit in at all and the part where he sings to Chris (Luke) was really dumb. And then the part where he turns on his light saber and it is limp, but then when Luke shows up, it straightens up. That was another, “OK…” part. And the nod of respect for the "Robot Chicken" episode was nice as well.

Overall, it was pretty enjoyable and funny. My girlfriend has never seen the movie (blasphemy I know!) and she liked the episode too. Then again, she is huge “Family Guy” fan whereas I am not. I’ll take “The Simpsons” over “Family Guy” any day. OK, that hi-jacked the thread.

But yeah, I just wanted to share that I saw that episode too and enjoyed it.

i'm glad that you shared, its nice to have someone other than me and monkey here, after ish disappeared. yeah i'm still almost mad about the perv playing obi wan, but i did like how the lightsaber straightened up. i was watching this with some guys, so of course the entire room erupted. the real player 7 joke was pretty good too.

your girlfriend must see the originals. she must.

as for favorite characters, monkey, i love obi wan kenobi. he is compassionate, resourceful, a great swordsman and really all that a jedi should be. but i like your picks, palpatine is a great chess player and bobba fett is pretty awesome. i read this collection of short stories on bounty hunters; bobba survived the pitt and there are some pretty cool 25 page short stories on him. i read it in middle school (7 years ago) and i still remember that. wow. star wars might have ruined my social life in middle school, then again all i missed was angst and pimples.

that parsec thing is so trippy! i never thought about that. at first glance it is a science hole but you're definitely right.

so i watched the robot chicken episode finally and loved it!! "the darth vader can't really choke us skit" got me crying. and the george bush one was a fun juxtaposition of our two worlds.

yes, i noticed that ish finally posted in the halo 3 thread. its good to have him back.

Nice input, Frag-man. I am happy to see someone else who enjoys 'The Simpsons' a bit more than 'Family Guy'. Where I live, it seems 'Family Guy' and 'South Park' dominate the "adult" animated shows. I like 'Family Guy', but only on a goofy level. There are times I came close to crying watching 'The Simpsons'! 'And Maggie Makes 3' always gets me at the end: "DO IT FOR HER" Awwww, sniff. I HATE 'South Park'. Not my kind of humor I guess. I notice that it seems to be a standard for girlfriends not to have seen the most fantastic science fiction series ever created. My wife hadn't seen 'em before we hooked up and neither has a few of my friends' girls. It's actually kinda better for 'em because then they can start the story from the very beginning, so everything's a surprise as it happens! That's how I introduced my wife to it. We hooked up just before "Episode II" hit theaters, so before we went to see it, we watched "Episode I". Then, we went and saw "Episode II". On the way home I explained what was going to happen in "Episode III" and then we watched the final 3 movies within the next few days. She ended up liking 'em, but not as much as we do Wink. If she starts to get tired of "Episode I", it might help to tell her that the movies do get better as each one progresses the story. It might help if you told her Jake Lloyd isn't in any of the others, too Razzer!

As for The Friar, you and my best friend would get along very well! He holds Obi-Wan up above EVERYONE else in the "Star Wars" series. I like him alot, too, but that Palpatine... What an evil bastard Big Grin! He's everthing you said about Obi-Wan (with the exception of compassion Wink), the best of the Sith! He was able to take every little setback and use it to his advantage in one way or another! And you lucky dog! You've read Boba's side adventures?! I've only read and heard about them, but I've never actually read the comics!

As far as the parsec thing, hey, I'm a nerd! I heard Lucas mention it somewhere. Maybe on one of the commentaries. The one to "A New Hope", perhaps?

Okay, here's another question: What's your favorite droid? If you head over to wookiepedia and type "Droids" into the browser, you'll get a page of the different kinds and links to their seperate pages. (Ya know, just in case you don't happen to know what your favorite droid is called. Wink) My favorite droid has always been an assassin droid called IG-88. He just looked so cool. The odd thing is, I had NEVER seen him/it in the movie until I got it on DVD! (I knew of him/it because I owned his/its toy.) Before that, I'd only seen it formatted and he/it was cut off when the film was cut! You can imagine my surprise when I was watching the DVD and Vader suddenly walked past him/it! Yet another reason widescreen is THE way for me! Big Grin

nice category monkey. You're might not be into this like I am, but I am fascinated with the philosophy and ethics of treating droids with advanced artificial intelligence (consciously aware of their existence). the whole isaac asimov three laws of robotics and that whole ball game. what are your opinions on the matter? This also relates to my major so i'm curious as to what you think.

IG-88 is bad ass, (he was in that bounty hunter collection too) i just didn't realize he was in the movies. i really want my copies of star wars now.

I have an inclination to say R2-D2 because somehow that moving trashcan has more courage and personality than a lot of people I know, despite his only means of communicating are a few beeps and forget about complex body signals and motions.

Also, I adore HK-47 from the video games Knights of the Old Republic. His sadistic comments were just really funny in context. "Please, Master, Let me kill this meatbag." He and Jolee Bindo are some of the best characters not seen in the movies.

And i love the cyborg Lobot: he can dance. see robot chicken episode

next category: favorite characters not ever seen in movies (deleted scenes included!!!)

i gotta say Grand Admiral Thrawn, hands down. that blue guy is like 10 times better than Hannibal (not the cannibal) and Robert E Lee (its a Southern thing) and Ender (had to throw it out there) combined at tactics and warfare. I love the guys who use their brains to kick ass.

on the edit: I reread this and realized that my writing was echoing incoherent thoughts, so I added a few things to communicate better.

Wow, you guys sure know a lot about Star Wars. I bow at your greatness, oh great Jedis. Haha.

I just wanted to chime in about the droid question. I go with the easy one, R2-D2; like Friar said, he is oozing with personality. Even with just a few beeps and screeches, you gotta love him. I think he is so cool and even thought he is just a robot, you have to really pull for R2.

but you are the great jedi forum moderator! Monkey's title at least fits him.

You can't go wrong with R2D2, you're right, you do pull for him.

any thoughts on the rights R2D2 should have?

I love the idea and have read a few books & watched a few videos, but I'm afraid I don't know a whole lot about the subject to make a very interesting conversation, BUUUUUT if you share a bit with me, I'm sure I could give you some more input. Wink

He's/It's in "The Empire Strikes Back" in the line of bounty hunters on Vader's command ship. Right next to Boba Fett. However, you can only see him/it in the widescreen version! I was shocked when i was waiting for the DVD set and there were several people who went for fullscreen! They're missing out and don't even know it. Frowner

I've never played that game, but I looked him/it up and MAN, that is a bad @ss droid!

I don't know of too many "Star Wars" characters outside of the movies, but there is one that was mentioned that I'd love to learn more about: Darth Plagueis the Wise I mean, this was the master of Palpatine and probably the father of Anakin! It's too bad his wookiepedia page is mostly rumor or based off of the words of a known liar.

Here's a question: Who would you rather train under, Yoda or Luke? After "Return of the Jedi", Luke becomes the head of the Jedi Council and becomes so powereful in the force that he can crush an AT-AT with the wave of his hand! We've seen Yoda push droid controlled tanks back into their ships, close the ship's hull, push it back, and then up into the air to collide with another ship! I can see there being benefits having either one, really.

I'm also curious of something else, what would happen if a Sith put a force choke on a Jedi? You see this as Vader's main staple in the original trilogy and by "Episode VI" Luke has learned it, as well. So, what would happen if they used it on each other? Would they cancel each other out?

i do enjoy the way you write things monkey, you do a great job of puting your voice into the writing. Again, I hope everything goes well with the surgery!!!

i would go with yoda just cause he has so much wisdom, there is so much to learn from what he himself has learned from the ages he has lived through.

i don't think a force choke could kill a jedi, perhaps the jedi would use the force to counteract it... i'm not sure. i'm gonna think about it more.

monkey, if you got a decent comp, you can buy KOTOR for $20. It is a great game, with a very star wars story. I was caught in that world for a week....

i'll post more later, about the philosophies of droid treatment...

I figured as much Wink! I mean, who would turn down sitting under the teachings of Yoda? He's been training Jedi for 800 years! Except, I might go with Luke because being able to actually see a human pull off the things he can do would help to give me confidence I could do it. I think that was part of Luke's problem when he was being trained.

I was thinking along the same lines, so that could be the answer Wink! I just found it odd that Anakin started choking out Padme, but didn't turn it on Obi-Wan. I would have!

praying for you monkey. Smiler
can't wait for you to get back. you know, my brain has its issues (a brain tumor that kind of stops brainflow in this one area. if it ever got big, then I'd have to get a shunt like yours) but I consider myself lucky and inspired when I hear your story.
my mom saw star wars costumes for dogs in party city today! she called me pretty quickly and we're going to try and dress up my 6 pound malteese poodle as princess Leia.

as for the droid treatment stuff, I am no expert, yet, I just like the theories and the thinking behind it. Still i know a few things and I'm working on the stuff, my ideas and arguments are kind of disorganized, so it'll be a while still.

great to have you back, monkey. check out some of my posts in the religion thread, didn't realize posted there until i started catching up in the discussions.

my ventricles are, according to my neurosurgeon, "moderately enlarged." The tumor hasn't grown since I started puberty and I usually don't like to mention it to people, actually (my best friends don't know). We just had another thing in common that I thought was funny (even though the subject is not that funny).

i love your new quote, where is it from?
