Maybe I'm misquoting the original Star Wars, but Obi-Wan (Alec Guinness) tells Luke that the Force can be used on the "weak-minded" (that's my recollection, but I could be wrong since I've watched it only about 40 times). Now, the Jedi uses it a few times, but mostly he uses it on stormtroopers! I always thought stormtroopers were hired because they were lousy shots, but they must also be "weak-minded". To me, the phrase implies someone who is not aware of their surroundings or incapable of self-survival, so it may be a stretch here. I don't believe it implies a mental handicap, but I'm extrapolating the use of it in the first Star Wars movie (Episode 4, ha!) to the prequels. Don't take my word for it since I'm not a Jedi or anything. Oh, wait a sec; I'm a Super Bad-Ass Jedi?!?!? Wow, I must be weak-minded.

Yeah, I noticed it phrased it in that way, but my point was even this guy (& several others )entertains the notion that Sidious was behind the capture. I, myself, am like you, I don't really see them as being hired. This is why I believe the Force was involved in this case. quote: He controlled the senate through his diplomacy (master chess player, right?) not his force powers. I don't think a dark lord of the sith can be that powerful. He might have nudged a few people's minds in the right direction for votes but like you said he manipulates jar jar into doing that stuff in amidala's absence with his master diplomatic powers. No force powers.
Yes, he used manipulation, but this was amplified by the Force. Why else would Mace say, "He controls the Senate & the courts! He can't be left alive!"? quote: Especially the whole Yoda in ET thing and then you see ET's species in one of the prequels (maybe episode II) in the senate.
It's in Episode I, actually . I look for those little turds everytime ! I love that part! They took a little joke from "E.T." & made it apart of the Star Wars Universe! quote: and what exactly constitutes "weak minded?"
Well, we know any & every Stormtrooper is, certain low-life criminals are, extra-long headed alien butlers certainly are, & there's bodygaurds as well. So, I would say a weak minded person is a follower. You know? As in: "There are leaders & there are followers. Which one are you?" Oh, & if you aren't very smart, like the gungan leader, Boss Nass. Not too bright at all & completely taken advantage of by Jedi mind tricks. Poor guy. quote: However, I still like your explanation of things.
Thanks alot ! I've had these discussions with a very old friend of mine for years on end! Once we get started on "Star Wars" the conversation will last for hours. Yes, we're that nerdy for "Star Wars", but at least we don't play dress up. We only TALK about the movies!

Naw, just a tad old . Even Obi-Wan had to think hard to bring up memories of the past. That blissful look he had when he talked about it, meant all of his attention is on this subject & nothing else.

star wars is just brilliant. I first watched episode 4 in first grade and remember loving it, watching it the next week over and over again. Then my dad told me there were more! So I went out and bought the original trilogy on VHS (one last time ) and watched Empire Strikes Back. I got confused and got depressed. I thought Han Solo was killed during the carbonite process. I wanted to join the Rebellion to save the Empire. Then I watch Return of the Jedi and I loved it, even those damn ewoks (i was just a kid). But please lets not talk about those ewoks that managed to fight and defeat the Empire's best troops. They were fun for me as a kid. Now... I love star wars buddies, by the way. I remember we would just talk and talk all about star wars and the differences between a b-wing and an y-wing (well not something that easy but you get the idea). And I never dress up, though, I've been one to those things (at the local boarders) and really loved all of the guys who did it. They even had a lightsaber demonstration where a guy showed off simple moves used in movies and fanfilms. speaking of fanfilms, I'm sure you're aware of Troops but there is a quite few good ones you can find at theforce.netMy personal favorite is Conspiracy but I also love the Pink Five stuff and Revelations is good too. Also youtube has Chad Vader stuff which is really funny. And the guys who made Troops are in the midst of making IMPS

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE FANTASTIC VIDS ON YOUTUBE! Like: 'Star Wars VS Star Trek'- Someone has integrated episodes of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' into the original Star Wars trilogy to create a battle between the Enterprise & the Empire! 'Ryan VS Dorkman' & 'Ryan VS Dorkman 2'- The BEST amature lightsaber duelists, EVER! 'TROOPS'- As you already know, a Star Wars 'COPS' show. Just a few of my many favorites. oh, & thanks for those links! I had no idea about neither one of 'em.

Yipes, see this is where I gotta sail in a different direction from you guys. I love Star Wars as much as any nutjob ( I am a certified Lucas nutjob- I even love Thx-1138) out there, but I can't stand watching parodies and mash ups of me beloved trilogy.....brrr I must remain pure, lest the dark side take a hold of my 'weak mind'....

You do know some of these are George Lucas approved, right? Anyway, you can't deny the snazzy of those amature lightsaber duels! Are you denying the snazzy of them?

You do know, you are aware, that there are two George Lucas's dont ya mb? The first, true one fell gravely ill shortly after Jedi, and died, but just before expiring he managed to clone himself, although he was using the Professor Frink patent, and a few screw ups later, out came evil George. Evil george set out to make a bizarro Lucas world in which everything good Jedi George created must be defiled ha ha. Thus, the approval of Jar Jar, Hayden Christensen,Star Wars parodies and Han shooting second, not first!!! I rest my conspiracy theory!!!

Hmmmmm. A conspiracy theory that is eerily like the one involving Palpatine & Sidious and their switch in Episode III. Was it art imitating life?

Hey there Friar. In response to your question, I have indeed seen too many of the fanboy parodies...plus a few made by my film students over the years. I'm not being wholly serious when I say I cannot stand watching them. They really do annoy me, mostly cos they aren't funny, but I appreciate that they are made with love for the series. Parodies in general annoy me, so unfunny ones about some of my fave movies really don't get me too excited. But when I am King, I will allow my subjects to continue watching them ha!

So, you really don't like 'TROOPS'? I thought it was great how they "showed" ya what went down with the Jawas and Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru! And 'Ryan VS Dorkman' is just some fantastic fight choreography! By the way, Tatooine has 2 O's & 1 T. I'm not sure if you didn't know that, if it was a typo, or if that's just the crazy Austrailian spelling of it.

I THOUGHT so ! If you take a look around at my other posts to ya, you'll see that sometimes I put an "i" there & sometimes I didn't. I couldn't figure out which was the correct one & I never felt like doin' a spellcheck 'cuz I'm lazy like that. Besides, I've never been to Australia & I've been to Tatooine hundreds of times, so, of course, I'd be able to spell one & not the other! Yeah! That's why I couldn't spell it right, yeah! Oh, by the way, don't correct me. It sickens me.

So, mb, you have been to Tatooine hundreds of times, 'ey? While you were roaming the galaxy, which alien race did you find the most interesting/coolest etc? I've always been partial to the sand people myself..

The Hutts! Ever since I had first seen Jabba in "Return of the Jedi", I've just loved that alien race & wanted to know as much as I could about 'em! For instance, did you know that he was about 600 years old when he died in Episode VI?!
