I just saw Episode III and had to write a few words about it. I want to begin by saying that I hated Episode I and had given up hope after the slightly better but still mediocre Episode II. Now after seeing Episode III I am so excited that I am having trouble sleeping! I would even go so far as to say that it is as good as ESB.
I reckon that George Lucas must have secretly hired Peter Jackson as a "silent" director because Ep III has that same lump-in-the-throat epic greatness as The Lord of the Rings films. I even felt intense emotion watching a Star Wars film for the first time since Han Solo got frozen in carbonite. The final duel on the lava planet was beautiful, dark, tragic and so incredibly powerful. Oh god I'm starting to sound like Harry bloody Knowles. Better stop now!!

OK, I screwed that up somehow. I'll try again. Again, beware of the spoiler.
I was thinking about the scene where Senator Palpatine is just about to get killed by Mace Windu. I was pretty surprised that Windu could take him down, especially after seeing him pretty much defeat Yoda. That got me to thinking, did Palpatine let Windu take him down knowing that Anakin would come to his rescue? Once Anakin cut off Windu's arm there was no turning back. He had turned to the Dark Side and could not return. (He even says, "What have I done?" indicating that he regrets his actions immediately, but as I said, there was no turning back.) Did Palpatine know this and set him up? It seems even more likely when you consider that Palpatine acted all weak and like he was dying, but right after Anakin struck Windu he mysteriously regained full strength, immediately jolting Windu with force lightning and even smiling while he did it. I imagine that it's explained in the novel version of the movie, but I don't think I'm going to take the time to read that. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

My thoughts are that your interpretation is correct and will lead to other similar thoughts regarding Anakin and the Chancellor. You do recall that Anakin was a virgin birth in The Phantom Menace, don't you?

Yeah, I remember about the virgin birth. My little brother told me that there was a deleted scene from Revenge about that. Should be interesting to see the details of it on DVD when it comes out.

I have yet to see it and have been trying to dodge spoilers, but frankly, because I am an avid star wars fan, and because I work at a marketing firm (which sometimes gets the scoop on movie news) I have found it hard to dodge them. I pretty much know what is going to happen in this movie, but I will still go see it. I once had a teacher tell me that in Shakespeare's day, everyone that went to the theatre knew how the play was going to open and close, but they went to see how end was acheived. I am in no way comparing George Lucas to Shakespeare, but I feel the same way about this movie.
What did the five fingers say to the face?! Slllap!!

this movie fills in all the holes. sure the acting still really isnt that fabulous (samuel l jackson should have said "ive had it with these mother fucking sith in this mother fucking senate. everyone sit down. im about to open some windows.") and what do you know, the windows open. that was a tangent, but how does samuel l jackson not make you laugh

Everyone needs to know how bad these movies really are...dont let your children watch them...boycott the prequels...
Boycott the Prequels? They are the backstory, the whole premise for why Vader is the way he is! Now, watching Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, you actually feel for HIM when he dies! He was truly deceived, used & abused by Palpatine. Also how do you expect to see the Jedi in their prime? No longer do we have to use our imaginations to picture how Jedi use to fight. We now see Yoda as the "great warrior" he was referenced as in "Empire...". We now know how Palpatine rose to become Emporer. We even got to see the Clone War that Luke mentioned in "A New Hope". Best of all we got to see how close Obi Wan & Anakin were before things changed between them. Not to mention, you now know just how much of Vader truly is machine. Obi Wan's words, "He's more machine now, than man" have a whole new meaning. To watch all six in one sitting is a hell of an experience! I suggest you try it. Although, you should start at about 8 or 9 in the morning, if you want to finish around midnight. Especially if you include the "Clone Wars" 'toons between Episodes 2 & 3. My friend & I choose a day to do it every October (since that is when the third came out to DVD). It's become a tradition that we are making sure will never die!
