One day Konami have a hugely successful showcase of the title in front of the world's press. The next, it's been stolen, immediately bringing up fears that the demo will soon be the hottest pirate game this side of ThrillKill.
The theft took place on last Thursday afternoon, as the second day of the show was coming to an end. Metal Gear Solid 3 was playable for the first time at E3 2004 and attracted massive queues of gamers keen to try it out. Some obviously more keen than others.
An eye-witness apparently saw two young men, around 19-20 years old suddenly pop open the plastic casing around the demo PS2, wrench the disk from the console and hightail it to the exit. They immediately informed staff on the Konami booth what had happened, but by this time the criminals had apparently made their escape.
This theft is undoubtedly a blow to Konami, and it is likely chief developer Hideo Kojima will be less than impressed that the first ever playable code was so easily swiped on its first public demonstration. Who knows what drastic measures may be dreamt up to stop this happening ever again.
no one stole crap, OPM came out with a playable demo like three days after the so called theft so if anyone stole anything why would OPM have a demo so soon?
Even if someone stole the deom, what are they going to do get security guards who resemble the genome soldiers and arm them to the teeth?
