Okay..I rented the game, I'm still on the ship at the beginning....
There are 1000 great things about this game, and 1 huge bad thing that's becoming really, really irritating.
I love the battle system, I think it's really set up well (Except, I think the Normal difficulty level is too easy and I should bump it up a notch).
There's just a bloody MINIGAME every five minutes!! Every single boss so far! You get to a certain point, and if you don't press the dumb button it tells you to press or jump on some strange thing to pin the dragon head down, it recharges it's life.
There is NOTHING in the battles so far that's challenged me one bit. But on the hydra head, it tells me to press circle. I *press* circle, and nothing happens. Lather, rinse, repeat, meanwhile I'm recharging life 10x faster than I'm losing it.
Is this problem only present at the beginning, or is it pandemic throughout the game?
It would be a shame if such a great battle system were wasted on a game where there are so many minigames you never get a chance to use it.
It feels like I'm having trouble getting through, but not because of any difficulty the game actually offers. I'm getting through the actual game with *no* difficulty whatsoever yet still struggling because every five minutes you have to figure out how to time some random button pushing. If this problem doesn't disappear fast it'd render an otherwise wonderful game practically unplayable for me.

It gets much better after the ship level. Then you are given the choice of how to kill your victims, except for one or two more bosses where the button mashing sequence is needed. Don't quit, it is an excellent game.
As far as difficulty, if you feel the need start over with a higher difficulty, but I enjoyed it at the normal setting myself.

Well, are the regular bad guys tougher than they are in the first level, in normal?
(And how do you beat that last hydra head? Even when I press the circle button and get the hook thingy attached to it, it seems to break free and regenerate!)

I finally get to a battle that's kind of hard (The medusa battle), and I actually die a few times.
And...it asks me if I want to set the difficulty level to easy for the battle?
No F-ING way! If I wanted to play on easy, I would have played on easy. It actually suggests that instead of finding a way to beat the enemy I can't beat, I set it to easy to get *around* the challenge?
Friends, THIS is what's wrong with today's youth.
Incidentally, I did find a cheap way to win eventually, but it was ON HARD, damn it!

Edit:
And oh yeah, why does it seem that various elements of this game seem custom-tailored to piss off mothers groups and reactionary religious groups?
Exhibit A: Dirty heathen PAGANS!
Exhibit B: A part near the start where there are random half naked women in your bed who you can have sex with.
Exhibit C: Excessive blood and gore.
This clearly goes beyond free expression. They're trying to get free advertisement from angry mothers' groups.

One would hope that concerned parents would be wise enough to come to the realization that complaining about such material will only generate more free press. In any case, they'd be fighting a losing battle. All games have very clear ESRB ratings that angry mothers everywhere should probably pay more attention to. And hey, lets face it, there are much easier targets (The Guy Game, Leisure Suit Larry, Playboy: The Mansion, GTA: San Andreas, etc.).
The only time in recent history that a game has been censored is when GTA: Vice City was accused of racism towards Haitians. So unless the Pagan community decides to make an issue out of it, I think God of War is in the clear.
But getting to the real point, I think God of War is custom-tailored to appeal to the game's core demographic: guys! Check out the material about the making of the game for more.

ok so i am at the big bull like thing and i keep smashing his head against the ground but the green flashing lights in the top right hand corner of the screen are there. What the **** am i supposed to do to kill the s.o.b
After you smash his head on the ground, he should be dazed. When he is like this, run back to the other side of the room and shoot a log at him to destroy his armor (and eventually kill him).
By the way...God of War is an awesome game....but why are there so many different posting places. If a game gets so popular, moderators should consolidate the posts into one folder.
