Have a 12 year old whose favourite game is Kingdom Hearts. I´d like to get her some Final Fantasy, but having never played them myself I don´t know which is the best. Going by rating alone I would tend towards VII, but that is for PS1 and I have had problems with some functions(especially saving games)on the PS2 with games made for PS1.

Definitely, FF VII is the acknowledged best in the series. Of course, FF X (PS2) is a solid title as well, but not as good as 7 or 8 in my book. I think a lot of people would also tell you that "Chrono Cross", also part of the FF universe, is an excellent choice. Good luck! (and read some of the user comments for the games in addition to the critic blurbs for the best advice....)

FF7 - Very Good Game Also One Most Remeber But Not Perfect Esspecialy Graphicly If Your Used To Kingdom Hearts Id Choose One Of The Graphicly Better Ones (Ps1)

FF8 - Much More Varied But Isnt As Much Fun As Many Of The Other Games Graphicly Ok But Very Difficult To Get Into Especially For Younger People (Ps1)

FF9 - In My Opinion The Best Of Them All , Easy To Get Into And Is Good Graphicly (Ps1)

FF10 - Amazing Graphicly And Flows Very Well Great Game But Can Be Very Hard If Your Not Used To The Whole Concept Of It (Ps2)

FF10-2 - Pretty East To Get Into But Can Get Very Boring Especially If You Havnt Played FF10 First (Ps2)

Or If That Fails You Can Wait For Kingdom Hearts 2 Out Next Year :P

Btw Some Ps1 Memory Cards Dont Work On The Ps2 Depending How Old Your Ps2 Is If Its A Fairly Old PS2 Then The More Likly It Is To Work The Newer The PS2 Is The Less Likly They Are To Work Just Remeber PS2 Memory Cards Dont Save Ps1 Games!

Problems saving, eh? Do you have a PSX memory card? You have to use a different one for PSX games. That said:

FFChronicles: If your sister doesn't mind old school graphics, this rerelease of FFIV and Chrono Trigger is a good one. Especially Chrono Trigger.

FFVII: Excellent game, I highly recommend it, but keep in mind the outdated graphics. If you sister doesn't mind, this might be your best bet.

FFX: My personal favorite (so far). This is what I would get her. It's got a great story, great gameplay, and a couple of awesome characters. It's also got excellent graphics, especially in the cutscenes.

I've also played FF8 and FFX-2. Those are both VERY hit-or-miss titles, especially X-2. You should stick with VII or X, both of which generally appeal to a wide audience of fans.

Also, characters from VII, VIII, and X appear in Kingdom Hearts. Your sister will probably enjoy that.

I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

Finally someone who thinks Nine was the best. Everyone thinks nine sucks, I loved the story and the time setting. Although I might be a little biased since I only played FF8 for 24hrs and I was still on the first disk. For FFX it was a huge improvement over 9 but for some reason I still liked 9 better.

As for Teeder I guess I would have to say FF9. I guess it also depends on what kind of girl she is and what story would most likely intrest her.

Thank you for the help. I got her VII and VIII for now, at least she´ll be familiar with the characters.
I hear a Kingdom Hearts II is in the works that´ll be a must when it hits the shelf.

Sure, that will happen with games..so, a suggestion (since you already got your daughter the games)..PS1's sell for very cheap now..you can go to a pawn shop or a second hand store..some retail stores may sell them still..either way, they will be cheap and will allow your daughter to have full use of FF7!!

BTW, thats my favorite of the series!! GOOD CHOICE!!

It's unanimous, Final Fantasy 7 is by far the best and favorite Final Fantasy. I have my 7 year old nephew playing it now. 8 is a very close second in my opinion. 9 I hated, 10 had a great storyline and amazing graphics, 10-2... I hated... charlies angels on drugs. But I have plenty of other friends who enjoyed the game so have at it. Now... Chrono Cross I personally liked... BUT (And I wouldn't be mentioning this if someone hadn't put it out there...) There is NO comparison to Chrono Trigger. These days you can go to Game Crazy or Gamestop and pick up a copy of the game as a PS1 title. Final Fantasy 3, more recently re-released in the past few years as Final Fantasy 6 is another amazing title.
I'll also mention to you... you might want to follow the Kingdom Hearts forums. Square already has video clips from Kingdom Hearts 2 (or 3 if you count Chain of Memories.). The graphics for many of the FMVs are incredibly similar to what they're using for Final Fantasy Advent Children, Square Picture's second movie due to play at your nearest PSP handheld. Incredible!

Final Fantasy VII was my first RPG, back in the days. It would be a good place to start.

(Just out of curiousity... You do know that you need a PS1 Memory Card to save files for PS1 games, right?)

I personally liked ffx out of all of them, but most people think 8 or 7 are the best. The storylines are all very good. If you want a different twist on the final fantasy series check out the MMORPG FFXI.

Finaly Fantasy III on the SNES (or VI as some of you may know it) is and always will be the best ff hands down.

FFVII is where a lot of people sunk their teeth into RPG's, and it was a good game so it sticks.

I don't know what you guys think, but Final Fantasy Tactics was a pretty good one for me. I really like the story line, especially cause there was a lot of backstabbing, but i guess you would only like it if you like turn based games as well. But, I have heard that VII was the best, I only own VIII and I found that to be a great game!

I actually think FF7 was the first in the series' decline into style over substance.

I think the clear best in the series are 4, 5, and 6. 7 not only got much easier, they reduced the number of characters in the battle to 3, and made it so every character was pretty much exactly the same.

I mean, for a young kid who's not going to care the game is way too easy and will like to just throw on the most powerful spells to easily win any battle -- yeah, get 7. But for older, more experienced players, 4-6 trump all the new ones in gameplay.

Yea, Bob, you are probably right, but I have yet to play those games so I don't know much about them but with what you said, sounds like a more fun game! +)

In FF7, which I actually enjoyed the first time through, I found that you could win any battle just by throwing your best spell over and over and healing occasionally.

In FF4-hard type (In FFChronicles) and FF5 (FFAnthology) there are many battles where that's not the case, and you really have to think of a better strategy. And I really appreciate that. I also like that each character (FF4) or each class (FF5) has it's own set of strengths and weaknesses, and you have to deal with them rather than just using materia to extinguish all your weaknesses.
