Haven't seen much of it yet but it's definetely on my list of games to considor. I do love the fact that it centers around the old school universe as well.
Judging by the reviews it should be a good one!

Ok, so I'm weak...I had a $55 Best Buy gift certificate and I drove by Best Buy last night on the way home from work...well, actually, I drove a mile out of my way...but that's not important. I bought the stupid game instead of waiting to hear from you guys...sorry.

First, let me say that not only did I not have much time to play it, I don't play many video games anymore...like at all. I played Episode I Podracer all the time when it came out...but since then pretty much nothing.

This games is incredible and complex. The graphics and game play are very good (mind you, the only recent game I have to compare it to is the 45 mins I played of Spider-Man 2). It is certainly going to take some getting used to since you use both the right and left joysticks (one to move, the other to look around) and the L1 and R1 buttons to fire...that may be a standard way of playing these types of games nowadays, but it's new to me.

I played the Instant Battle version and this game throws you right in the middle of the battle. It's pretty cool. You can be lots of different guys and do some pretty neat stuff. I like the fact that you're not simply trying to go from point A to point B, but rather you act like a soldier in battle, i.e., part of a larger strategy...very cool.

I fought a battle on the wookie planet and that's pretty cool...even though AotC kinda bummed me out, I'm now begining to look forward to RotS. Cool planets.

Anyone play this yet?

If anyone's still checking in, I've played single-player so I'll discuss that. Finished Historical Campaign (on easy). Love the game and disagree with critics that solo gamers should avoid it, though casual gamers might like it more than hard-cores (as my skill is more casual despite how many years/games I've played).

The AI isn't horrible as reported, though it is unbalanced. Some enemies won't dodge your shots. Some won't return fire when aware of your presence. Some allies won't follow your instruction. Some won't pursue enemies. In general, AI was spotty but more helped than hindered the overall experience.

The vehicles are a challenge to control, again as reported. But once you get used to the handling, they're fine and can be pretty fun. More often than not, however, the vehicles won't considerably further your objectives, though at least snow speeders and vehicles on Geonosis can destroy enemy spawn points.

As you're probably aware, gameplay in general is standard shooter fare. Move with one stick, aim with the other. R1 fires primary weapon, R2 secondary, L1 lobs primary explosives, L2 secondary. Auto aim and sniper mode work reasonably well, and you can pick up health and ammo from fallen combatants.

Unlike what some have said, I think there's considerable replay value. A variety of playable combatants on either side with their respective weapons/abilities keeps things fresh, as does the variety of vehicles and environments. Granted, at some point you'll tire of fighting the same battle, but there's enough here to last awhile.

The bottom line is if you're a Star Wars fan, I think this game will appeal to you. The graphics and sound are spot-on, and the gameplay is at least standard fare, all of which will immerse you in the SW universe. Casual gamers should enjoy single-player, and hard-core folks should like multiplayer (from what I've heard).

Some turn-offs: Flying frustrates at first. Allies aiming through walls. Help can be hard to find. No rides can mean long jogs to battles. Some personal favs: Mos Eisley (Dark Trooper with jet-pack, urban warfare). Hoth (Sniping, tripping AT-ATs with snow speeders). Cloud City (X-wings, corridor battles). Best of the best: It's Star Wars!

Ok I finally had a chance to play this game, although on X-box - shouldn't matter much though.
It may not be the most original in in-depth game ever created, but it's just so much fun. The multiplayer works great too!
For those having problems controlling the various vehichles/ships in the game: Try to turn on the 1st persion view in the pause menu - it helps a lot..I only wish I realized that option was available a bit earlier!

K-Bee, when you say multiplayer does this mean that there is a split screen co-op mode or is it multiplayer on-line?

Its worth trying even if are not a SW fan.
Some will not like the button mashing, the A.I. sometimes gets lazy enough and lets you fry them all, and for some like me - it just seems too short.
It took me only a few rounds to get into the thing and just love it.

SWB is fun. I'm glad they're coming out with a sequel in November (hence, a lot of great games are slated to come out the 1st of that month, but I'm only looking for SWB2 and Battlefield 2). The controls are easy to get used to, the bots are sorta ok, vechicles aren't too weak and not too powerful and the game is pretty much balanced in both eras. (except I hate clone wars. Droidekas are kinda too powerful to me and the clone trooper's grenade arm is extremely strong for some reason....). I'd recomend it, but I always say rent it first.
