Awright fine, so yeah the XBOX Live has established itself quite nicely in the annals of online gaming, but hey, we have yet to see what Sony Online is capable of so until then, we can't really say which one would win the online race, right? Big Grin

Dude, you should see the specs for the PS3 and I think after glossing through, you will be impressed...it is definitely the most powerful next-gen console right now. (I have to admit the games at launch aren't anything close to amazing, but hey, wait till next year) The fact that production costs for each PS3 unit amounts to about $800 to $900 says something. (As a sidenote, someone correctly mentioned above that Sony takes losses at each unit sold because the retail price is at least $200 less than the actual production cost per unit) Eeker

I don’t own either an Xbox 360 or a PS3, but some developers have stated that the PS3 and 360 beat each other in different processing tests. I would have to assume that while the PS3 might offer slightly better graphics, the Xbox 360 might be able to run a more intricate AI against the player. So far, the PS3 is exactly the same or only slightly better. Hardly worth the extra cost, in my opinion.

As far as Blu-ray is concerned… UMD, anyone?

I don't know whether to buy a 360 right now, or wait for a ps3.
If I got a 360, I would get Gears of War and Halo 3 when it comes out, and if I got a ps3 I would probably wait for MGS4 and Killzone 2, so the games are pretty much equal on either side.. I'm leaning towards just buying a 360 with Gears tomorrow, since it's cheaper and I won't have to wait... but I still feel uncertain.

Okay, I got a 360 and Gears of War last night... now I have to wait through the school day and a dentist appointment before I can play it!

Never forget one thing: Sony is a HARDWARE company. Microsoft (even the name implies that) is a SOFTWARE company.
Just forget about: Halo 3 is better then Killzone 2 or x is better then Y. There are games that are beter in 1 system, and others that are better in the other system. Everything comes down to one thing: the QUALITY of the hardware.
And the hardware from Sony is TOP QUALITY. That's why the console is more expensive.
Microsoft should stick with what they do best: Software. Want a console? Buy a PS3 or the Wii. Nintendo and Sony are hardware makers.
Have you XBox360 fans ever heard about "The Red Ring of Death"? Google for it. You know why that happens? Because Microsoft IS NOT a hardware company.
Another thing: when buying a console, you should think you will own it for at least 7-8 years (at least). In the near future, high storage disks WILL be required. PS3 has built in blu-ray disks. Microsoft not. You spare $ today, but you will spend more tomorrow to buy a HD-DVD (and it will be external).
Go for the PS3. It is your best choice, because of the quality of the hardware.

Say what you will. It doesn't matter if Sony is a hardware company. Apple makes awesome computers, but you don't see them outselling PC's running Microsoft Windows. In fact, it's compelling software that gives people a REASON to buy hardware. As for which system or game is better? Well, 360 is still outselling PS3. Red Ring of Death or not, people are still buying more of those than the PS3...even if it is more reliable.

PS3's online service isn't as large or as popular as Microsofts. For today anyway, the score is Microsoft 1, Sony 0.

ok so i like both ps3 and x-box 360 but i would go with x-box 360 because it has way better games right now then the ps3 like Halo 3 such a great game by the way,if u havent played it u should.. but as i was saying the x-box has better and more games to play and a better online service to play your online games, tho the ps3 has blue-ray it will still not beat the x-box 360 at least untill its lower in price and gets some better games for it

Graphics for the games: PS3
Sound Quality: Equal I guess
Online support: Depends if you're a cheapskate or not, if you are, PS3
Reliability: PS3 all the way
Games: 360
Format Supports: PS3 (Blu-Ray)
Price: Actually it is sort of equal if you thinnk about it. Since the 360 does not come with HD-DVD support, to make it equal to the format support of the PS3, you need the $180 HD-DVD player. 350 + 180 = 530 VS 400 + 25(component cable) = 425. This doesn't include the controllers or games, which are about the same price. Xbox 360= $530 and PS3 = $425, and not only that, the PS3 has Blu-Ray, built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and better reliability. Now get what you want, pick the right one.

I know this will sound weird but here it goes: PS3 is just a sexier system.I have both systems and althoug the 360 has more games now, you have to take into account the greter amount of time on the market. Im not a fanboy but i like to use the term: "Sony Supremacist". And when you look at the systems the PS3 has the edge pretty easily. It outputs in 1.3 hdmi, compared to 1.2 for 360. It has built in wi-fi, whereas you have to buy the adapter for the 360. PS3 has support for bluetooth headsets whereas you have to buy Microsoft's headseat. This is also something i have noticed. Sony is trying to make things more universal, such as the universal HDMI port, on the other hand you are forced to buy Microsoft's HDMI cable. Also the only hard drive that will work with a 360 is Microsoft's hard drive. PS3 has an easily replaceable and upgradeable 2.5 SATA hard drive that could get up to ridiulously high amounts of memory (I have seen examples as much as 750 GB) and the ability to install Linux, making it a fully fledged PC. ALso i belive that the standard dvd format the 360 uses will hold developers back whereas PS3 will allow them to dream. Some games (MGS4) are simply more than the 360 can handle. Also with the death of HD DVD the PS3 is one of the chepest Blu-ray players on the market (even when it launched it was). Plus it has been noted as having better video playback than some stand-alone Blu-ray players. PlayStation Home may not trump XBL but im sure that this free, i repeat free, feature will be enough of a reason to sell a PS3 by itself. In conclusion I believe the PS3 is the only "true" seventh generation console. It has an innovative controller, a powerful cpu, and great graphics, and the next-gen storage medium. Its the most advanced piece of hardware and the successor to the best selling console of all time, where can you go wrong?

p.s.: Buy a PS3 and you help cure cancer, no lie.

When you consider that XBOX has access to most of the games that PS2 had, PLUS an incredibly intuitive online service, plus better dvd playback, plus 5.1 surround sound in every game, plus support for HI Def video....it's the better system.

As for PS3 and XBOX360...lets see which system provides the best experience. Both offer bleeding edge graphics, both offer surround sound, both offer dvd play back ( will blu ray make that big a difference if you have a regular tv and regular cables? Doubtful.) Does the PS3 connect to your PC and stream MP3's into your game? I don't know. Nonetheless it'll be interesting to see which system provides the best overall experience.

I think with Microsofts money and xbox's online offerings it'll be the king. That's not to say that PS3 will be crap system, i just don't know if it'll make the inroads in online gameplay that microsoft has already made.

Additionally, you can get final fantasy and madden on XBOX.

Well said, Bass. I completely agree. I am curious how the PS3 will take advantage of being put out after the 360... much the same way the xbox trumped the PS2 technically.

I think it's remote possibility. IF sony can produce a large library of fun games like they did with the PS2...they might come out on top. However, XBOX Live is no slouch. It's reliable, popular and media rich. I love the idea of blue ray, but who can deny the convenience of downloadable HD content from LIVE?

The other issue is, I can't think of a game that hasn't come out on both systems. That levels the playing field alot. I think the winner of the console war will be widely purchased, have an extensive collection of topselling titles ( just like the ps2 did) and it's online experience will have to be fun, reliable to geared towards making peoples online time EVEN MORE convenient and entertaining.

Yes, the xbox kinda came back against the PS2, but think about how the original PSX and N64 held their own against the technologically superior dreamcast. I LOVED the dreamcast, but the PSX smashed it. It was popular, had a great lineup, and a great marketing camepaign. 360 might do the same thing to the PS3.

There's plenty to like about both systems, but I don't think Sony is going to win the war. I know they won the Blu-ray battle, but if Microsoft steps up it's online offerings (which they could), Sony is doomed.

You know what's strange about this topic? The guy who made it was judging the consoles in August 2005, before any of the consoles were even released. That is stupid, since none of the consoles were even being judged by consumers.

Playstation 3 = Junk
Microsoft Xbox 360 = Junk
Nintendo Wii = Junk

I will not buy any of these systems. Gaming has gone down hill since the PS2.

I would like to hear Metalkid's reasons for his/her statement as well. Besides better graphics, I really don't think that there is a huge difference between the two generations at this point in their lifecycles.
