Well it's that time of year again. Time to dress up as a vampire, ghost or even a woman (Jackie). What flicks do you like to pop in? Unfortunately, my wife feels the need to watch 'Hocus Pocus' with Bette Midler about EIGHT TIMES EVERY HALLOWEEN!, so I'm real glad we have more than one DVD player.
The Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween The Shining Frankenstein (Karloff, not Deniro) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)

My favorite is easily "The Innocents" (1961) with Deborah Kerr, based on Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw". It's probably the most visceral and suspenseful horror film ever made, although there's not a drop of blood to be seen, but that teardrop was mighty scary. Be sure to watch it in the pitch dark...AHHHH!!!!(gasp)AHHHH!!!!!
I've rhapsodized enough about it here already, but you can use the "Find" feature to see what I've been going off about. Unfortunately, it's not on DVD yet (I have it on full-screen VHS, but it's periodically shown widescreen in all its pictorial/sonic glory on TCM.)
Come on Criterion, put out "The Innocents" and "A Matter of Life and Death" (aka "Stairway to Heaven"), the best Michael Powell/Emeric Pressburger film and one of the best fantasy flicks ever.

I love Halloween but... The Nightmare Before Christmas is number 1 for me!
"Oh somewhere deep inside of my bones...an emptiness began to grow...there's somewhere out there far from my home: a longing that I've never known...."
Required viewing over Halloween, for me, would involve...
The Entity The Excorcist 3 The Burning The Eye Texas Chainsaw massacre (original) and at least one of Romero's zombie trilogy Maybe 'Martin' aswell, like that.
For gore, I'd watch Evil Dead Trap.
