I have seen that film along with many other sick and depraved films that have been banned. That one was actually pretty easy for me to find. The scene where they gutted the giant turtle alive is truly disgusting. That scene and the scene in Traces of Death 1 where they blowtorch a live pig for 10-15 minutes are the two most gruesome scenes I have witnessed on film. I guess I find cruelty to animals worse than to humans!?! Not a scary movie, but definately disturbing.

Well on the Zombies versus Vampires topic, we at least know who wins when it comes to the making better movies and that trophy goes to ZOMBIES. Especially now as the Vampire genere has gotten real stale and this past year has been year of the zombies. Not to mention all the classics that we all know and love.

Yeah! Riiiight!
How about: Nosferatu, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Interview With the Vampire, Near Dark, Lost Boys, Shadow of a Vampire? For me there's like 2 good zombie movies: Night of the Living Dead (the old one) and Dawn of the dead.

I have to admit that Pet Cemetary scared the crap out of me when I first saw it. I haven't seen it in years so maybe it wouldn't again, but it has the two things that have always been scariest to me in scary movies: Little Kids and Old People. And I don't mean just ANY kids and old people, I mean Psycho crazy little kids and old people. Gage and the Mom's sister that she had to go upstairs to "take care of" really did it for me. Other movies with the like that have been pretty freaky are The Shining (little kids) The Omen (little kids), Even the end of the Ring with the girl...FREAKY! There are some other "scary old people" movies right on the end of my brain and I can't squeeze 'em out right now. Anyone else feel the same way? I also have to mention "The Fog" which I just saw recently and was underwhelmed from what I had heard was a very scary movie.

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back. -Face
DannyDreams, I agree with Evil Dead 2, Day of the Dead and 28 Days LAter but the rest are very average, I haven't seen all of them but I just dont think zombies have the style and the class of the vampires.
Can you really compare Near Dark with Shaun of the Dead???
Jackitheblade, you're right, the Fog wasn't scary and I thought it was very cliched: (a priest, a scary thing that appears at midnight, an old pirate story...)
Pet Sematary, I thought was hilarious! I wasnt scared one bit! I laughed so much! A possessed cat?! A cameo from Stephen King as a priest?! brilliant.
Well here's the newbie's two cents, probably nobody will agree...
In no apparent order, my top scariest:
The Haunted (Tv movie - not the Haunting before you ask) The Entity - ghost rape scarred me for life Exorcist 3 - On a whole not as good as the first, but as far as sequels go its one of the best, and the scariest. Simple scares too. The Birds - Had more impact when I was a kid really, still amazing how they did it. The Eye - Definitely the scariest of the new wave of great Japanese stuff, sequel blows goats. Ju-On: The Grudge : second scariest. Well, scary is an overstatement but a great creepy film. HENRY: portrait of a serial killer - it didn't go for scares but was one of my first horror films to see on video around the age of 10. Suspiria - Dario Argento creates a freaky atmosphere like no other, except maybe Fulci. When a Stranger Calls - Mediocre movie but with a beginning and end that's sheer tension.
The kid's head sun in Teletubbies and the wheeler monkeys in Return to Oz are freakier than all those movies put together though.

Well its ok. It has a story, which I suppose is always a bonus. Pretty low on scares though, it's about a ghost threatening a baby in the star's womb to try and be born again. I don't want to divulge much, it's enjoyable, but the ghosts look alot less dead than in the first. This typical business of painting actors ghostly colours in Asian movies is wearing a bit thin on me. Although I still love the style of ghosts in A Chinese Ghost Story and Mr. Vampire. I can't explain why but hopping ghosts will do it for me. Ghosts are the only aspect of horror movies I find remotely scarely these days.
Damn right about those wheelers, spooky shit. Actually, there's alot about that movie that used to freak me out. The rock face king was deadly at the time. Come to think of it, thats a pretty underrated sequel. Unleashed Fairuza Balk on us and everything.
I suppose it does pale a bit in comparison to the original, but it was on telly so much it feels like a part of my life, like Monster Squad and The Goonies included.

I saw this Wes Craven film yesterday called The People Under The Stairs, I thought it was really funny and slightly scary at times. Anyone else seen it?
I thought the film itself was quite well done (even though sometimes it was unintentionally funny) for Wes Craven. That dog in the film is so evil! Maybe not Cujo evil, but still! I was so glad when it died.
I don't get scared easily, but the Ring was pretty creepy.
Also, I don't know why everyone raves about how scary the Exorcist is. Maybe for it's time it was, but definetely not now. More entertaining than scary.
I guess the ring was scary. But not in my opinion one of the scariest. I thought that the exorcist wasnt neccesarily that scary because of the way it was done but the shots of the girl and everything was very freaky. Mostly for that time period.

OK, for all you youngsters that don't know any better. 1) Father Merrin almost gets killed by a buggie driven by a mourning mother. 2) Father Merrin confronts Pazuzu while the dogs try to kill themselves. 3) Chris McNeill checks out the house for rats...that's very scary. 4) The bed starts "thumping." 5) Regan has no idea what she's doing. 6) Regan rubs her mom's face into her pubes, says "lick me" , and tries to do much more damage (yeah, that's boring. Sidney?) 7)The phone call during the research of the Exorcism. 8) the actual exorcism....probably thr greatest scene in a horror film of all time.
I have a major problem, which as far as I can tell, nobody cares about... "The Exorcist" is scary, and "The Shining" is boring. Nobody here seems to care, but as I peruse all the other topics, it's completely believable, since everybody is SO FULL of IT! Peace and love, but I think my team just ate shit.
Oh yeah, and BS like Ace Ventura is "hilarious." Please grow up and watch some GOOD movies. Now, you can all hate me since I only tell the truth.

I'm sorry Mark, did someone say that The Exorcist was boring? Or are you just saying those things for the hell of it to prove your point that its a scary movie?

Actually, I was venting after another Dodger loss. You guys don't take it to heart since I'm also just trying to get some more interesting discussions going. There are at least three threads here in Horror which are basically all the same thing, so I guess I responded to the wrong one. Also, when I said "grow up", I didn't mean physically, but emotionally, so don't take it as some blast from grandpa trying to discipline his grandkid. (For all I know, I'm "talking" to someone older than me.) If the Dodgers had won, I probably wouldn't even have posted. Feel free to disagree with me at every opportunity, and unless I think it's blatant BS, I'll let it slide. Later, Gators.

I saw this film yesterday, The Frighteners, and it was good fun and really funny at times. But it wasn't scary at all and the special effects often looked like a CGI mess, but still, good fun.
