Shaun of the Dead is probably my favorite zombie flick followed closely by Cemetery Man, Wild Zero(with fantastic music from Guitar Wolf) and Night of the Living Dead. Like real cheesey zombie films- check out The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies.

The original Dawn of the Dead, followed closely by Dead Alive.

Dead Alive is hilarious I couldn't stop laughing the whole way through. Does The Evil Dead count? as for Romero's classics in the order I like them:
Dawn of the Dead
Land of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Night of the Living Dead --I have a crappy bootleg version so it pains me to watch it... it should be higher I know Frowner

He is watching you...

I'm one of the few people who thinks '28 days later' is overrated. The acting (particularly the young girl) is atrocious and the sections with the military are laughable. I found the actions of the characters questionable - why make a huge banner that says 'HELLO'? - why not make one that says 'SOS' - it's 2 letters shorter? Why drive a taxi through a dangerous tunnel full of zombies, when the roads are clear of ALL traffic? The casting was also mishandled. A comedian plays a scientist at the beginning - I couldn't take him seriously and thought it was going to be a horror/comedy - 'HE'S INFECTED WITH RAGE!' (very funny). Christopher Eccleston as the military leader is toe-curlingly bad. I realise that a lot of zombie films have flaws, but this was supposed to be gritty and believable - The director also did Trainspotting and I was expecting more. Nice cinematography though.

My favourite zombie films are -

Shaun of the Dead
Braindead (Dead Alive)
Night of The Living Dead (original version)
The Re-Animator

Duncan, I hail your noble effort to sound an "expert" in the zombie field, but with your harsh critiques, I must point out that you too, have made some flaws.

First off, the Re-Animator is no zombie movie, I realize that this is a minor detail that most people won't call you on, but I figured you should be informed.

Also, in my opinion, "28 Days Later" was a smash success because it was a great detour from todays fright films. Also, I have a hard time understanding how you call "28 Days Later" on such small miscalculations (the "hello" sign could have been a simple error that the humans in the film themselves did) when you watch such B-Films as Braindead and the Re-Animator chalk-full of mistakes. I understand, these films weren't intended for gritty realism, but I could argue that aside from the Military take-over and quarantine, neither was 28 Days Later.

I must say, my all-time-favorite Zombie Movie would HAVE to be 'Dawn of the Dead'(2004). By the way, 28 Days Later, NOT A ZOMBIE MOVIE!!!! They never died when they were bitten, they went insane! No eating, only beating! No rotting corpses walking (or running) the streets! I loved the movie, it just bothers me that everyone thinks that it's a zombie flick. The scientist at the beginning says it all, 'They're infected! With Rage.'

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

I only just found this reply (after more than a year).

SMALL miscalculations like bad casting, bad acting and a completely unbelievable plot? (we are talking about DANNY BOYLE!)

B-FILMS?!! - Braindead was made by Peter 'Lord of the Rings' Jackson and is possibly the best splatter film ever made. Re-Animator IS a Zombie movie- even major horror critic Chas Balun agrees on that one. The dead return to life and hunt the living. This categorisation throws '28 Days Later' right out the window.

And don't sarcastically call me an "expert". I was watching zombie films when you were in nappies. Your post is extremely patronising. I can't believe I missed it. Grrrrr!.....

Great selections. You can't argue with George A Romero. I think he overstepped the mark with 'Land...', but the guy doesn't get enough respect.
