I recently bought the 25 anniversary "Halloween" DVD, and went to a midnight showing of the film last Halloween night. What a great film. And the story behind the movie is pretty amazing. It was really an art-house film, barely funded, and shown at just a handful of theaters before catching on in a huge way through word of mouth. It did the "Blair Witch Project" thing, but without the help of the internet. It's such a pure movie, and I could watch that sucker every couple of months.

I actually own all the Halloween dvd's minus the 2 newest one's, they have just started taking them alittle to far out there for me. Also not to many people know that there is a Halloween that doesnt even have Micheal Myers in it!!

That one's called "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" It's a kinda "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" meets "Westworld" thing but much worse than either. It has been mentioned at these forums, and the only good thing I can say about it is that Dan O'Herlihy is in it.

Season of the Witch is SO BAD that I love it. "Eight More Days 'til Halloween! Put on Your masks, children!"

Okay, on October 30, 2004, the day before Halloween, I'm bored and am browsing the local video store for a scary movie to see.

My first choice was the new "Dawn of the Dead" but it was checked out. So I went for my second choice "A Nightmare on Elm Street"...checked out too. Hmmm...what's left...how about "Halloween"!

Yeah, I've heard such great things about it. So I got "Halloween" and I have to say, I was pretty dissapointed. I mean, for one, it was the most simplistic plot I have ever seen in my life. Guy goes around killing teens. He doesn't have any cool powers, there are no cool perks, just that. Okay it turns out that he's actually The BOOGEYMAN!! and he only can come out on HalloweenBut that's it?? Plus, the acting was pretty bad and it was so, so, so repetitive!!! Shot after shot of Michael Myers in a window or behind a bush with that same goddam music playing over and over again.

Okay, I'll admit that for the time, it did begin the whole "teen slasher movie" craze, and I guess a few parts were a bit creepy, but still, I don't get what the big deal is.

Kd,

Ouch! It hurts me to hear that you were disappointed by Halloween. I've seen it every year for about 15 years, and love it every time. Perhaps it would help if you knew how groundbreaking the film was for its era. It was truly the first of the camera-as-the-stalker movies, and it was what we would now call an "art house" movie, filmed on virtually no budget, and lasting many months, spreading across the US and UK like a virus. I think that it was the highest grossing independently released horror film until the Blair Witch Project broke all of those records.

I'm not a film expert, but you have to appreciate the opening scene, which was one, single, long shot. It was one of the first movies to use the steadycam. John Carpenter was a USC guy who was pretty cutting edge for his day. No, there were no special powers, but that made it all the scarier for me. The doctor's description of the kids eyes was just chilling!

Anyway, I dug it and am sorry you didn't!!
