Just watched it on DVD yesterday, and, while I enjoyed the first 2 for being what they were, I thought this one went way overboard into gore and torture while delivering a plot far more convoluted (sp?) than the previous two installments.

I dunno, I woulda stopped with the first, really. I liked the twist in the second, though, & the best parts of 3 are the scenes where they show just how deep the relationship was between "Jigsaw" & Amanda. That was the most interesting parts about the sequels, in my opinion. They basically filled in the blanks for the first. I did find the plot to be different, making the victims ONLY chance of survival depending on someone they had hurt in the past. In the other movies their survival was up to themselves. It was alright. I'd say that if you've seen & enjoyed the first 2, it wouldn't hurt to finish up the story. I do have a sister-in-law who really thinks there is gonna be a fourth Roll Eyes. I seen the story at an end with this one, but who knows? Maybe some idiot will be able to create a 4th. It wouldn't be the first time.

Yeah, I've read somewhere that No. 4 is in development. I'm not surprised. As a franchise, they're making some good scratch, so they keep going back to the well. Agreed, though, that the only scenes that honestly interested me in III were the Jigsaw/Amanda bits. Other than that, I thought it was a disappointment.

I thought Saw III was decent, I think they're forcing more installments into the series when they should stop right here. They're making a Saw IV and a Saw V.

Jules: Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.

Good gravy Roll Eyes. I'm wondering how they plan on doing this. They killed off Jigsaw & Amanda! My sister-in-law thinks the last victim (Jeff) is gonna take over, but that makes no sense. There can't be a rational explanation for it.

Erm ... I think the only way (this is off the top of my head) they could would be to redefine Jigsaw's role to show that there was even someone pulling his strings ... which would be pretty stupid.

I liked it ok. I'm mad at myself for not paying closer attention to it and trying to figure out the twist at the end instead of being completely surprised by it.

I just found out the story for part 4, & no, it's not that, but something EVEN more stupid! IF YOU AIN'T SEEN PART 3 & WANT TO, STOP READING NOW!***SPOILER AHEAD*** At the end of 3 the victim ends up screwing himself because he just killed Jigsaw, which killed his wife, & doomed his daughter. The really stupid twist is Jigsaw left him a second chance on video tape, instructing him on how to save his daughter. Ummmm, Jigsaw doesn't give second chances, you gotta earn it by following the rules. The dude killed Jigsaw, thereby flunking the test. GAME OVER! This series has officially entered Bumtown.

^^ You're right, that's a big diversion from Jigsaw's established rules, if that's what they're doing.

Ewww.

Ummmmmm... I bought "Saw 2 & 3" at the same time MONTHS AGO & have just gotten around to watchin' 'em. Seems I missed sumpthin' the first time 'round on 3. Just before Amanda comes into Jigsaw's room for the last time, you see him pour candle wax over one of his trademark small cassette tapes. This must be the tape left for Jeff in Part 4. They actually planned ahead! Also, watching it again, I realized Jeff's wife was Amanda's test, NOT Jeff's. Nor was his daughter really part of it, either. So, I suppose this sequel wasn't just an "add on/cash cow". Well, it is that, but it was planned out a bit more than most sequels in franchises that last this long.

^^ Minimally, I give TPTB props for at least trying to create a greater mythology than most horror films work at.

I agree with you that SAW III took the gore and torture a little too far. My favorite one was the second one because you finally got to see into Jigsaw and Amanda's relationship and how she was going to carry on his work once he died. As the sequels continued, things did get out of hand. The first SAW had ways to escape death, SAW II was a little harder, and then SAW III was absolutely insane to break free. SAW IV was extremely ridiculous. It deviated completely from Jagsaw's original plans in showing people not to take their lives for granted. The sole idea of SAW IV was to kill, with no escape routes. SAW II was great; SAW I was pretty boring, but the other ones aren't worth watching.
