So, against all the odds, we seem to have a first class horror film to make up for the mountain of trash dumped on our screens the last few years.

Anybody else excited by this demostracion espanola del horror?? Smiler

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Sooooo, Mr. Pine Overcoat, against ALL judgment, you still gave it a chance & ended up liking it? Hmmmm, perhaps a movie about infected masses I shall venture to gawk. It is getting some rage, I mean, rave reviews. I find it funny & annoying that they still refer to these people as zombies. Why is it no one knows what zombies are? This is the definition of a zombie:
zom·bie /ˈzɒmbi/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[zom-bee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. (in voodoo) a. the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.
b. the supernatural force itself.

Clearly not an insane person who beats the living crap outta you & I don't remember them ever eating anyone, either. In these movies they don't die to end up coming back to life, they instantly go insane. Okay, end of lesson. Guess I'll be back after I've seen the movie.

Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Okay, listen up Friend of the Capuchin, Big Grin, i gave the wrong impressio-own-ie, clearly. Seen the movie I have not. I was just going on the reviews, which are overwhelmingly positive.

My bootlegger is behind the 8 ball, and is handing me movies from 2004 at the moment, ha ha

I thought 28 Weeks Later was gonna be scum from the bottom of a scum sucking scum meister's scum covered scum brand shoe, but now...? ...now i'm really excited. Smiler

NOt seen it yet, but deffo going to. However, I wish all the reviewers ( mostly the ones which slag it off funnily would stop calling this is not a zombie movie! Zombies are the dead rising form the graves. These bad boys infected.

Also just a quicky on 28 Days, did anyone else think the ending was rubbish? As in the army turning all horney and, well, pathetic

I went to see this opening night with a friend of mine who had also seen 28 Days Later. If any of you have seen 28 Days, it was more a survival horror, with lots of quick thinking and in my opinion, suspense out the wazoo.

We went in to 28 Weeks with very, very, VERY high hopes and left immensely disappointed. The new team (only the producer was from 28 Days I believe) decided to ditch the somewhat slower, suspense filled pace and replaced it with cliche, predictable action.

I won't really tell all the reasons why I thought so (as they are spoilers and I'll wait until you all see it...or unless I can convince you not to). Some people, actually a lot, are saying it exceeded the last one (28 Days) but honestly, if you would rather see American's shooting things, tons of blood, lots of craziness, and incredibly predictable moments, then go see it. If you loved the first one (I'm talking watch it more than once or twice in your life), then don't go to 28 Weeks Later with very high hopes.

In response to your question Snige: I thought the ending of 28 Days Later made a lot of sense. It was an army base and they had not seen a woman in God knows how long and they would probably be craving sex, like any man would.

As a final note, they didn't end the series. They will be making another one, and I hope to all things holy that it did not reek like 28 Weeks Later did.

REEEEAALLY? By the previews, this is exactly what I was expecting & is the main reason I groaned when I first heard about it, but it's had so many positive reviews. With the exception of yours, of course. What to do, what to do Roll Eyes. Perhaps I should wait until our friendly Aussie/China resident coffinator can cop a bootleg & let us know what the deal is. I know I won't be able to get my wife to go see it & if I went with friends & it turned out to be dumb as all get out, I'd be a laughing stock.

So, my assumption in the 'Worst of 2007' thread that the next one would be "28 Months Later" wasn't all that improbable, after all? Remember, I said it first! That name is TRADEMARKED & now they will have to pay me to use it for the next one. You are my witnesses!!!!!

28 months later would be almost 3 years which seems like such an obscure amount of time for them to wait, but I don't know. And I'm sorry it's not trademarked, my friend and I were discussing "Almost Three Years Later (aka 28 months later)" before the movie even started the previews :P

Now I'm not saying DO NOT SEE THIS NO MATTER WHAT! I'm saying don't go in with high hopes of the same type of movie. The team that made 28 Days Later went on to make the movie Sunshine (which I have yet to watch, but have) while the producer went to make 28 Weeks. So go in for cliche action and a predictable story line.

Thankfully some people know what a zombie is and the rage infected people of the 28 Days/Weeks movies are not zombies. Onto 28 Weeks, not good. The dumbest military containment plan every not to mention the weakest guards ever, come on one rage infected guy vs. at least five guards with guns. You would think they would destroy the bridge to stop the outbreak. Last thing, is anybody else getting tired of shaky cam? I seriously couldn't tell what was going on during the attacks. The camera was jumping all around and it gave me a headache.

Well first, in slight defense of the movie, destroying the bridge wouldn't have done anything as it was clear that the infected could swim in the beginning.

Second, the shaky cam was in the first one but I think they gave it to a short, nonathletic man who couldn't hold it this time. It didn't really add to the movie...and it gave me a headache sometimes too.

Good point BlackPandemic, I forgot about that. I still think it would have at least slowed them down a little.

NOt to offend and Americans here but, the film is making a slight nod to the US army thinking they are the dog's danglies, though it's not quite as bold as Team America.

And I also made the point that these are infected non dead poeple, not zombies

And yes shakey cam is boring now. Makes up for not having to be spot on with choreography etc. Saving private ryan fine. For one scene. For lots of scenes? Out it away.

No I agree. It made the US military look like a bunch of retards to put it bluntly. Except for that one stereotypical character who had the big heart and saved everyone *rolls eyes and gags*

As for the shaky cam. War movie, it's expected; with bombs going off everywhere, the vision of someone would be like that. But in 28 Weeks, they used it when? When people were running? Just overdone.

OH and to August's point about blowing the Bridge. Well that's movies and dumb US army for you. Also, an island didnt make a blind bit of difference in the remake of Dawn of the dead.

So, having watched the film in question twice, pondered upon it for a day and night, written a few drafts of this review, I am confident in stating that this a fucking masterwork, and we may have a genuinely great and lasting talent in the young director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

The editing, direction, cinematography and script blend seamlessly into the best of creepy British horror, visceral US horror, and curiously enough, the alienation of European art house like that made by Michelangelo Antonioni.

In fact, Fresnadillo reminded me a great deal of Antonioni, with similiar framing and odd close-ups.

This is something for the ages, to be revered as we do Candyman, Martin or Taxi Driver...tales of lost souls in a hideous world.

Then you are not a true cinema lover.

I think it's a shame what's happened to the series due to the change of team. Everyone but the producer went on to make Sunshine (which I've yet to watch even though I have it) and the producer stayed behind.

Sure it was okay. I'm not completely bashing this movie, but in no way do I nor any of my friends consider it a "masterpiece" and definitely not on the same scale as Candyman or Taxi Driver.
