this has been on my mind a lot lately im not sure if i can figure out why but i cant stand progressive rock for the most part

(i only own two progressive rock cds presently and one was given to me!!)

but i love love love progressive metal,

here is my reasoning,
progressive rock for the most part is extremly pretensious to the point of laughability, anyone who has read any songs by Yes should know what i mean. they actually have the gall to sing save the whales on one of there songs,

whereas progressive metal seems to be a more thoughtfull intelligent form of metal where fashion, trends, and all around retarded macho stuff that has ruined most metal since zep and sabbath falls to the wayside,
some bands like dream theatre do tend to go a little overboard on the technical virtuosity but not as bad as prog rock musicians who seem to be under the delusion that they are really classical musicians,

anyways, whats youre opinions on this subject i am really curious what you intelligent people have to say ............ Big Grin

Download Yes - Fragile and King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King.

Seriously, I was like you, except for the "liking prog metal" thing. To me, it was just common knowledge that prog sucks. Then I saw Vincent Gallo's film Buffalo 66, and there was the scene where Billy Brown is at the strip club to kill the kicker who lost the Super Bowl for Buffalo. They played "Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes during the scene, and I was like "this is Yes?"

Prog metal is good but if you listen to anything that Dream Theater or Fates Warning does it way more pretentious than prog rock. Rush, King Crimson, and Yes have been doing there thing for years and it never seems pretentious.

Arguing online is like winning the Special Olympics. Even if you win you're still a retard.

hmm i will have to respectfully disagree the only thing i find pretensious about dream theatre is that they cram way too many solo's into there songs,
i guess im just not a yes fan at all cause i was happily relieved when they got to there dance rock experiments towards the end of the disc, its sad that they only recorded two cds like that before returning to theyre old habits maybe it was pressure from there old fans.....
