Hands down, no question, Free Bird...I've always loved that song, but it has taken new meaning since it was featured in GTA SAN ANDREAS, and yet more meaning, from The Devil's Reject. That song simply rocks...
I have to go with November Rain. Free Bird has never been one of my favorite Skynyrd songs. The fact it has almost become a cliche doesn't help either.

Neither of these songs are cliches (wahtever that means) they are anthemic rock ballads in tune with their time....maybe. November Rain is like the perfect encapsulation for everything that was 80s to 90's transition rock music...for better or worse. And Free Bird which is the better song by far lends itself as a southern hippied out rebellion tune against the pressures of life. It can be cheesy, but in a wickedly important way. I once played air guitar to free bird in my underwear on the bar at a packed party along with several of my drunken friends for the entire live version of the song...count 12 minutes. Its one of my greatest drinking memories and I have to believe that others have done something embarassingly similar.

november rain is a good song but free bird is definitely better...you can't beat the solo...and just because a song has become a "cliche" doesn't make any less awesome
well if these aren't cliched lets ask ourselves, how many times have we heard these songs and whether these songs have any meaning to us anymore individually other than in a group with each person singing along to the lyrics believing themselves prolific for it
Both are bloated, pompous and overindulgent. That said, I'll take Freebird!

Freebird Forever. I heard it again just yesterday at my ex husbands funeral. What way to go. The words took on a whole new meaning. He is as free as a bird now. He always loved the part, play it pretty for Atlanta. November Rain is a great song but in my opinion Freebird is the #1.
November Rain's a stinker. I loved 'Appetite for destruction'. Unfortunately for me, November Rain marked the end of a great band. The ultimate debauched rock'n roll experience sank into costume changes, wind machines, theatrical MTV vidoes and other such gibberish. It's melodramatic and 'Spinal Tap'.
I'll get into so much trouble writing these things...Can I vote for Motorhead's 'Ace of Spades' or Half Man Half Biscuit's 'F**kin' 'ell - it's Fred Titmus'?
Playing "Freebird" on Guitar Hero II is so much fun. I know this isn't a video games thread but playing it is just so cool and its the game's big closer so its even better. You really need to check out those games. On the first Guitar Hero "Freebird" was hinted at being on Guitar Hero II and now they are hinting at "Stairway to Heaven" to be on the next game--if there is another one. That would be awesome.
I go with "Freebird," but I really like "November Rain" also. By the way, "Sweet Child O' Mine" is on Guitar Hero II but I really wish "Bohemian Rhapsody" was on it.
