Utterly pointless, unless they happened to hire Dr Frankenfurten from Rocky Horror...

Recent rumours have pegged them as a possibility for the next edition of the reality tv show, Rockstar. Ugh. (Others mentioned were Blind Melon and Van Halen!)

Brian May said definitively that they won't be doing the Rock Star thing. I can't imagine any singer would want to join Van Halen at this point. There's a reason they've gone though three lead singers (hint: EVH is a huge a*hole).

I can't begin to imagine Queen without Freddy Mercury. Certainly there are good voices out there with Mercury's fullness and range. But Mercury's vocals had a passionate quality that cannot be reproduced, and certainly cannot be replaced. Queen's music stands on its own and is timeless. As much as the thought of hearing a new Queen album initially thrills,a true love of music forces me to acknowledge that certain things are better left alone. A Queen reunion is one of those. Anytime I hear of a reunion, especially when one or more of the original members are no longer available, I have to question the motivation. Would a Queen reunion carry on the fresh contribution Queen albums gave to rock? I don't think so. Most often such reunions are about money or about trying to find a niche in today's rock through use of a "hall of fame" name. The name can become the "selling point" rather than the music they create and play. That is always sad and a sacrilege in the world of good music. There are few good, genuine reunions that have worked. Lynard Skynard is one of those. The Stones have managed without Jones and Taylor. But, they are the exception. Again, just let Queen continue live through their ageless music rather than through a contrived reincarnation.
Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!
