I despise it when "Stairway To Heaven" is constantly touted as Led Zeppelin's magnum opus. It's one of my least favorite songs on that album, though it's admittedly great. It's their most famous -- not necessarily their best.

I think "Stairway" is a very good song, but it's been so overplayed it's nearly impossible for it to have any impact anymore.

I think one of the chief lessons I'm taking away from this thread is that my entire life has been enhanced by not listening to the radio. Wink

Just for hudson: All of us old farts called this album Led Zeppelin IV. We just spun the records and looked at the nice photos and packaging. We didn't give a flip about what the record actually said. We already knew what it was. Kinda remind you of anybody? Doesn't really matter one way or the other because "nobody believes in learning" [not], whether they're a Young Turk or an Old Dog. Cool

They had photos back then? I figured all the album art was printed from woodcuts.

Same thing, MoFo!

I'm referring this to the estate of Mathew Brady. I believe they can probably hunt down the info on your defunct card and hammer you about now...

Dumb Question: What are you talking about in this post?

LOL. Okay, but I'm going beyond the call of duty being a markf translator.

I jokingly made fun of mark's age saying that I didn't think photographs existed when he was young buck listening to Led Zeppelin. Mathew Brady was a famous photographer during the civil war (which was a few years before mark was born, if I'm not mistaken).

The card stuff had to do with my post in the Radiohead thread about me being a victim of identity theft after purchasing In Rainbows with my debit card.

Oooooooooooh. But then, how would the estate of Mathew Brady be more-than-usually qualified to resolve your debit card situation?

Another dumb question, I know.

I agree with you about “Achilles’ Stand,” it is definitely one epic song. I think that the rest of the album doesn’t really hold up to their best ones. It has a few good songs but the rest are just clunkers.

I didn't know Led Zeppelin had clunkers.

And though it's not on the list, I'd like to give a shout out to Zep III, which contains my single favorite Led Zeppelin song, "Tangerine".

Just stumbled onto this thread. EG, you and I are in agreement. I have very fond memories of Zepp in my youth, especially Led Zeppelin II. When I need a Zeppelin fix these days, I'll usually listen to II or III, but I also really love the BBC sessions. They could rip like it was nobodys business. Even Heartbreaker kicks ass on the BBC album, which surprises me. I honestly thought that would be a tough one to pull off live. I also think the second solo (the one that's accompanied by the band) is massively underrated, when compared to Jimmy Page's fretboard workout section in the middle.
