One of the things I love about this site is that it makes you think as much about what you haven’t listened to as what you have.
I have to confess I’ve given Paul short shrift – VERY short shrift. – since the Beatles broke up. I owned Band on the Run and didn’t like it much. The only other post-Beatles stuff of his I’ve heard (and liked) is “Live and Let Die”, “No More Lonely Nights” and “Coming Up”. Oh, and “Mull Of Kintyre” (meh). You would’ve had to be orbiting Jupiter to escape that one.
Now I’d like to redress the balance.
What do people regard as his best post-Beatles work?

Well, I'm a Paul freak from the beginning, so I have to list essentials, such as McCartney, Ram, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars. I kinda laid low on his other stuff, but I can recommend Run Devil Run and Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Others would undoubtedly recommend Flaming Pie and Driving Rain, but as of now, they've slipped my mind (that's not meant as a diss of Macca as much as me!)

I've missed quite a bit of Paul's solo work too. One interesting moment you may want to check out, is 1989's Flowers in the Dirt, if only because of it's four collaborations with Elvis Costello. Elvis and Paul did some writing together in the late 80s and four of those tracks ended up on paul's album, and four more ended up on Costello's albums Spike and Mighty Like A Rose. McCartney even co-penned Costello's hits "Veronica" and "So Like Candy".
It's not quite as good as Lennon/McCartney, but McCartney/MacManus(Costello) wasn't too bad of a songwriting team.

There are a few excellent post-beatles albums released by Paul both solo and with the Wings - Ram, Venus And Mars, Red Rose Speedway, London Town.. Some others are also worth checking out. "Ram" is definitely his best.
