For those who don't know/haven't heard of him (or should I say them), Sam Roberts is a Canadian rocker that has a band...the Sam Roberts band. (SRB)
He's put out 2 solid records, and now finally, he's put out a third.
I have been waiting for a new SRB record for a long. long. time.
This record did not disappoint.
Hearing the single "Them Kids" gave me the feeling the record would be filled with up-tempo jams. Which isn't a bad thing, but I like diversity in records, and this album definitely has diversity.
There are the guitar-heavy songs, and even piano-driven tracks ("Detroit '67") but the melancholic/slower-moving tracks fit perfectly in here, creating a good balance between light and dark tones.
Still need to give it some time to sink in obviously, since I've only gotten through it once, but I'm really liking what I'm hearing.
"Waking the Dead" is the standout track for me on this record.
