I know everyone doesnt agree, but I think Antony Kiedis has an excellent voice.I know from time to time he sings slightly offkey, but that actually adds to songs, like aeroplane and power of equality. And I'm really looking forward to the new album.

Well he certainly has the voice of a something alright, but I'm not quite sure it's a celestial body. Voice of an angel dust abuser might be better... Big Grin

Aside from the fact his name is Anthony, I don't think he can sing live. I watched RHCP's performance on SNL and his voice was definitely lacking something...maybe it was his inability to sing on pitch? Don't get me wrong, I like RHCP, but I rather listen to John's guitar than Anthony's terrible vocals.

riiiight.

I've never seen them live but he can't be worse than Billy Corgan live. That was truly awful.

So sorry, I thought they spelled it antony over in america. As you can see, I changed it. Thanks for the heads up. I may have to agree with you about him singing live though. My sister went to see them and the pixies a few years ago in Dublin. They had sold 120000 tickets. She said the pixies were miles better, even though they werent headlining. But I have to admit, on the studio albums I think his voice comes across perfectly. think Under the Bridge, My Friends, Californication, Tear. I know I've picked only slow songs, but they are among the best. And you cant fake your way through a slow song. You have to have talent and control over your voice.

I saw them live on their last tour...Anthony's vocals sounded fine. Maybe the SNL thing was just nerves...I hope so anyway. You'd think after being in the music industry so long, he would have learned a thing or two from his vocal coaches.

riiiight.

I was merely picking two extremes to illustrate my point. I never said he couldn't be somewhere in between. I think he's towards the better end of the spectrum though.

Decent voice, but not a great singer. He has very little power, and an inability to sing consistently in pitch. When I saw them back on the BSSM tour, he was very disappointing, and really let his bandmates and the audience down. Then again, I've been disappointed with pretty much everything from RHCP since Hillel passed away. I usually tend to love whatever Rick Rubin does, but he made a big mistake in convincing Kiedis that he could sing.

God love Anthony and everything, cause he feels like he needs it, but he is not a "good" singer. Never has been, never will be. He's lucky to have been surrounded by the musicians he has been. They've just carried him along on the wave of T.R.H.C.P. thang. And if one is to believe that Kiedis is a superior vocalist to Corgan... no offense but, you're hopeless.

I never thought he was an amazing singer. He's pretty good and he fits really well the band, but if he ever went solo, there's no way he could make it.

How bout this. Noboby can sing a song like Anthony Kedis_period. Lets not pick his voice to shreads and critize. How damn great is his imagination on S|A . If someone complaint about the writing on S|A he simply does more with less. That is impressive for a singer. Roll Eyes

Antony Kiedis masters his voice now and is surely a great singer...but maybe too good, and that's the problem. He doesn't make funny sounds or weird voices anymore like he did when recording BSSM or One Hot Minute. Kiedis and all other members try to make a "perfect" band with "perfect" songs (just think of Dani California) and so the new RHCP lacks of weirdness and energy.

he probably doesnt have a voice of an angel, but the music meshes so well with the vocal, it really doesn't matter.

Sorry, but anyone who doesn't think that Anthony Kiedis is a great singer is downright dumb! How the hell do you think they got so famous?! The band is soo amazing, but do you REALLY think RHCP could have done ANYWHERE as well with a singer without such a unique voice. Sorry but coming from one of the RHCP's biggest fans, I think that anyone who CLAIMS to be a fan, and insulting Anthony should just shut the F up because you are NOT a fan. Dead serious.

And anyone who thinks being a fan means being blindly loyal or denying something that may be true is just deluded about what a fan really is. If the band you love makes a crap record, admit it. If the singer isn't a great singer, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the records.

His voice may fit the style of the Peppers' music, but I couldn't honestly ever claim that Kiedis is a good singer. He has little range and he tends to stay within a handful of stylistic moves, which isn't to say they don't fit the songs. His is the perfect style for a song like "Give It Away" but that doesn't make him a strong singer.

Having a unique voice and being a great singer are hardly the the same thing. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lou Reed, and Roger Waters all have unique voices, but I wouldn't call any of them amazing singers. In RHCP's case, I think Anthony Kiedis voice lends itself well to what the band does, but I wouldn't go so far as to call him an amazing vocal talent. He's no Jeff Buckley or Chris Cornell.
