I am listening to Jimi Hendrix Experience "Are You Experienced?" I remember the first time I heard Purple Haze. I though I was in heaven and those first notes are forever in my brain. He was playing a Stratocaster? Anyway, what guitars are your favorite rockers playing?

Dick Dale invented surf instrumental on his Fender. That's one guitar I have to love. Plus, the man also invented heavy metal, destroying Fender amps in the process. What a guy!

The Gibson Les Paul is simply the rock guitar. A thing of great beauty.

Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Paul Kossoff, Mick Taylor, Richard Thompson. Of course, Jimi would come along and ruin things

I've seen photos of Hendrix playing a Les Paul. It looks weird.

The Rickenbacker has a HUGE history, especially when you consider that all these guys played it: John Lennon, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Roger McGuinn, Carl Wilson, John Fogerty, John Kay, Paul Weller, The Edge, Peter Buck, Johnny Marr, Paul Westerberg, Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith, Thom Yorke, Ed O'Neill, and many, many more. Plus, McCartney, my vote for the greatest rock bassist ever, played a Rickenbacker. I guess it's just a coincidence that their headquarters is just down the street from me.

Without a doubt. I didn't know what he played was a Rickenbacker. My vote for rock bass is the Chris Squire-style Rickenbacker - sexy beast and a sound like the hammers of Hell.

I believe the bass McCartney was famed for playing was a Hofner, mark. He may have played a Rickenbacker at one time too, so I won't go as far as to sa he never played a Rickenbacker, but the weird little viola looking bass he was normally seen with was a Hofner.

Tom Petty and Mike Cambell of TP & the Heartbreakers were also big Rickenbacker players.

As far as I'm concerned, Paul was the greatest bassist with his Hofner, but I have plenty of video of him with his Rickenbacker, and this also confirms that he moved up to another level after he switched to the Rickenbacker in the studio.

Trivia perhaps, but well worth sharing.

Interesting. I didn't know the old Hofners had such crappy intonation. The new Hofners are evidently better, since Paul's seemed to have switched back to it in recent times.

A Fender Jazzmaster is featured on the cover of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. A lot of band use Jazzmasters, and their sister guitar, the Jaguar. They were very popular with shoegazing and grunge bands.

Also played by bluesman Otis Rush (Jaguar, I think).

I have seen guys switching guitars depending on what song was next. I guess it is nice to have the right tools in the toolchest. PRobably every instrument has its nuances that fix a certain kind of music. Lots to learn.
