Passing phase? Enduring talent? Most likely the former. Talented guitarist yes, but the whole is not as great as the sum of the parts. New single "diamonds", is garbage.
I think they are a passing phase, which is sad. I think there is a lot of talent in this band. I love listening to them. However, I don't hear a lot of experimentation, or songs that really "stretch them". If they keep playing it safe they will wind up in the discount bin.
Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

Look, just because their guitarist made the cover of Guitar Player magazine, Los Lonely Boys don't qualify as a good band. It seems that the only acclaim they are getting (besides from GUITAR_FREAK_93 apparently) are from the guitar publications that would rather hear a good solo than a good song. It seems to me, from the songs I've heard from this band, that they write these simple pop songs as an excuse to get to the guitar solos. Van Halen wrote simple rock songs as an escuse to get to the guitar solos. The only difference to me is the volume level of the music.
Very nice little band. I like their studio albums over the live ones (one live cd was pretty bad sounding). But I enjoy their music, sort of Los Lobos gone pop (though I get easily hooked by some decent Tex-Mex, which the Boys most certainly do). I've also heard in their music a certain Latin soul which reminded me of El Chicano, a favorite band from long ago.
